So, you’ve either got some 2022 rookie 1sts or you’re targeting them. Here’s an article that should hopefully give you an idea of their value. With that information, you can either try to sell your picks high or buy them low. It will depend on how others in the league value them. I will be approaching this from a Superflex point of view.
First of all, a disclaimer: I do not watch much college football. This information is from gathering information from multiple sources and having years of observing how rookies perform in the NFL. I have a vested interest in this as I have five 2022 1sts in a rebuild league and two in another where I have a good chance of winning this year. So in having seven 1sts between my two dynasty leagues, I’ve been keeping an eye out on these rookies. I also have nine 2023 1sts between these two leagues so I’ve been keeping an eye on those prospects too. These are just my values so feel free to pick and choose what information you want from this article.
Quarterbacks
Matt Corral, Sam Howell, Kenny Pickett, and Malik Willis are the four main names you’ll hear for potential 1st round quarterbacks (for fantasy and the real NFL Draft). None look like studs but all have starting potential. If you refer to my 2022 Quarterback Security article, I’d value them around the Promising Passers tier. I see them valued around how Mac Jones or Justin Fields were valued after the 2021 rookie draft. They could all go in the mid-to-late 1st round of the NFL draft.
Running Backs
Isaiah Spiller, Breece Hall, and Kenneth Walker are the big three names you’ll hear for this class. They may not be in the same category as Jonathan Taylor or Najee Harris, but all three look to be lead running backs wherever they land. I see them around how Javonte Williams was valued after the 2021 rookie draft.
Wide Receivers
Treylon Burks seems like the clear top option. However, Garrett Wilson, Drake London, Jameson Williams, Chris Olave, and David Bell seem like great prospects too. These six receivers may be valued around where Jaylen Waddle and DeVonta Smith were valued at after the 2021 rookie draft.
Tight Ends
No one. Well, that was quick. The best TEs may be valued around where Hunter Long was valued after the 2021 rookie draft. I’d think they’re probably not worth a look in the first round.
Summary
The 2022 class has been touted as a down one for a while. Though there doesn’t seem to be generational talent in this class, it’s by no means a bad class. One of the big issues is that it appears relatively weak near the top at the quarterback and running back positions. These are often considered the two most valuable positions in superflex dynasty. The later 2022 rookie 1sts may be valued similarly to the later 2021 rookie 1sts but the early picks definitely seem weaker than last year’s.
I may not straight up trade my 2022 1sts for 2023 1sts because earlier picks still have more value, but if you can be pretty confident there will be an early 2023 1st available, it could be worth trying to get that plus another useful piece for a 2022 1st.
I am sure these will change a lot over the next few months, and again after the 2022 NFL Draft. My leagues have passed the trade deadline, but after the fantasy finals in 2 weeks, I will probably be more willing to sell 1sts than buy them. I also wouldn’t worry too much about getting high 1sts as I think there is good value with late 1sts as well. If I can get a pretty good return, I would probably look to trade back within the 1st round. I have listed all the names in order of my rankings, but I don’t see huge disparities between all thirteen of these guys.
Wrap-Up
Take this whole article with a grain of salt, but hopefully my valuations can help you in your assessment of 2022 rookie 1sts. As a reminder from my Rebuilding in Dynasty article, though 2022 draft picks are rising in value, they’ll probably be worth a lot more at your fantasy rookie draft. Because my views will likely change, expect follow-up articles to this one with updated valuations.
