This is arguably the biggest free agency ever for fantasy purposes. With a major QB signing and many RBs moving around, there are many fantasy implications in play. Free agency isn’t over, but we’ll get started anyway on 2024 NFL free agency winners. I will be looking at these players from a dynasty fantasy football point of view. Quarterbacks
Pretty much every quarterback who got a starting job (or potential starting job) was a winner since they have more job security than before. This includes Kirk Cousins, Russell Wilson, Baker Mayfield, Gardner Minshew, and Sam Darnold. Drew Lock might even get a chance to fight with Daniel Jones for a starting spot.
The Washington Commanders and New England Patriots signed Jakoby Brisssett and Marcus Mariota respectively. Though I do not expect them to start the entire season, it’s very possible they could start for the beginning of the season while rookies get acclimated to the NFL.
Though it’s not from free agency, the Carolina Panthers traded for Diontae Johnson, which is a bit of a win for Bryce Young.
Big Name Running Backs
This was the focus of free agency frenzy. Saquon Barkley gets a slight bump since he goes to an improved offence. However, his upside is limited with a rushing QB there in Philly.
Josh Jacobs may be a slight winner with him going to a better offence, however, he doesn’t have much security in his contract so I wouldn’t say it’s a huge win.
Derrick Henry is definitely a winner with him going to one of the best rushing offences in the league. We saw last year that they are very willing to use RBs in the Red Zone despite having a rushing QB so Henry could get a lot of touchdowns.
Tony Pollard has a slight victory with him getting a 3 year contract. However, the Titans struggled to run the ball last year and Spears offers significant competition so his upside is limited.
D’Andre Swift got a much bigger contract than many expected. It’s a crowded RB room but Swift should lead it. That offence has a lot of potential if Caleb Williams is the stud many project he will be.
Zack Moss may be the biggest winner of them all. The Bills cast him aside and now he is the lead back of the explosive Bengals offence; he has a lot of upside for the next 2 years.
Smaller Name Running Backs
Speaking of ex-Bills, Devin Singletary did quite well in Houston last year and looks to be the lead back with the Giants. Though I don’t think he is a huge winner for fantasy points, he has more job security than before, which helps his stock.
Gus Edwards is another potentially big winner with the move the Chargers. The coach and offensive coordinator there have historically been very run-heavy so he should get a lot of usage. However, I would not count them out of going into the draft for another RB so it could end up being a lateral move.
Wide-Receivers
There isn’t much change here. Tee Higgins, Michael Pittman, and Mike Evans were the biggest names and they have all gone back to their teams.
Drake London is a huge winner with a massive QB upgrade. Darnell Mooney may get a slight bump with the QB upgrade, but I don’t expect too much from him anyway.
With Diontae Johnson getting traded away and Russell Wilson coming in with the ability to throw deep, George Pickens is probably the biggest winner.
We are still waiting on landing spots for Calvin Ridley, Marquise Brown, Curtis Samuel, Odell Beckham Jr., and Tyler Boyd.
Tight End
Dalton Schultz just secured a contract to stay with one of the most exciting young passers in the league. He should be good for the next few years.
Kyle Pitts is another winner with the new incoming quarterback.
Wrap-Up
This has been a very exciting free agency and it isn’t over yet. Hopefully, you had some of these players on your teams. And if not, maybe you can go acquire these 2024 NFL free agency winners, though be wary of overpaying on hype.
