CFL Fantasy Picks – Week 4

Last week was a crazy week and I wasn’t able to write a CFL Fantasy article for Week 3. But those I did pick had a good week and I had my highest point total of the season. This week is a crazy week in the Canadian Football League as the Edmonton/Toronto game slated for Thursday has been postponed due to COVID cases among the Elks. The good news is that everyone’s choices of players grows for your weekly fantasy squad. Here’s who I picked up this week.

Quarterback: Vernon Adams (MTL – $11,282)

The Alouettes are making their home debut on Friday night against Hamilton, who is coming off a bye week. Adams has had a pretty good first two weeks of the 2021 campaign. He struggled against Calgary, throwing an interception and completing only 20 of 42 passes attempted. Adams did have two touchdowns and nearly a third in the Als’ comeback attempt. The Als return to the friendly confines of Percival Molson Stadium, where Adams has been very successful. Like most quarterbacks, he’s pricy, but I’ll take the risk this week in CFL Fantasy.

Running Backs: Brady Oliveira (WPG – $4500), Justin Davis (OTT – $3000)

After a breakout game in Week 1 against Hamilton, Oliveira’s production has slipped. But with the continued uncertainty of All-Canadian running back Andrew Harris’ status, Oliveira remains the number one back for the Blue Bombers. The good news is that the Bombers return home against Calgary, who gave up over 150 yards rushing against Montreal last week. I’m still a believer and I’ll take Oliveira in CFL Fantasy as a value pick. Speaking of value picks, Davis is a low-money pick I’m watching. After Timothy Flanders was injured in the RedBlacks’ loss in Saskatchewan. Davis is listed as the number one back on the RedBlacks’ depth chart. He’ll be the feature back in the RedBlacks’ home opener against BC.

Wide Receivers: Lucky Whitehead (BC – $7009), Nic Demski (WPG – $5861)

For the first two weeks of the season, Whitehead electrified the Lions’ offense. Last week, his numbers dropped off a little, but he still leads the CFL in receiving yards. Whitehead is also tied for the lead with 3 receptions of 30+ yards. Will he resume his big play ways against Ottawa? Whitehead has been one of the mainstays on my CFL Fantasy roster this season, so I’ll stick with him. Another mainstay is Demski; the Blue Bomber receiver remains a dual threat at receiver and in the running game. Their opponent, Calgary, has struggled to stop the run this season and this is one reason why I’m sold on Demski for another week.

Flex: Jaelin Acklin (HAM – $5096)

After a week off, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats are hoping to get back on track. This is especially true for their offense, which has produced only two touchdowns in their two games. One receiver they hope to get going is Acklin. Head coach Orlondo Steinauer has mentioned that Dane Evans will start at quarterback this week for the Tiger-Cats. With Bralon Addison still out, Acklin will act as Evans’ secondary receiver after Brandon Banks. I’m hoping for a breakout week from Acklin in CFL Fantasy, especially against a depleted Montreal secondary.

Defense: Montreal ($3200)

I realize that this is very counterproductive, especially since I have a Tiger-Cats player on my CFL Fantasy roster this week. Defensive backs Wesley Sutton and Najee Murray are out this week, so the Alouettes are going to have to rely on their front seven to stop Hamilton. The Alouettes’ pass rush forced two interceptions out of Calgary quarterback Jake Maier and allowed only 80 rushing yards. In their first game, they sacked Elks quarterback Trevor Harris four times. Their pass rush will be key and I’ll take a chance against Hamilton’s struggling defense.

Cap Space Remaining: $22
