Most people that play in fantasy play in pretty similar leagues. They’re often 10-12 person redraft head-to-head leagues with 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1-2 FLEX, 1 K, and 1 DST. Some people like to spice things up with different types of leagues. The main ones growing in popularity are dynasty and Superflex leagues but if you want to try something very different, you can consider Vampire leagues. So, what is a Vampire league?
Main Idea
The main idea of a Vampire league is that it mostly works like a head-to-head redraft league but one of the managers (often randomly selected) is the vampire. The vampire does not draft. However, the other managers cannot use the waivers once the draft is complete, making their selections much more important. Some leagues allow for trades while others do not.
The vampire has a huge disadvantage in not being able to take any of the top players but is rather stuck with the leftovers. However, they get to choose from the entire waiver pool for the rest of the season. The other advantage is that if they do manage to beat another team, they get to swap one of their starters from any from the other team (usually they must be of the same position). This makes it extra important for teams to make sure they win when facing the vampire.
Wrap-Up
If you’re looking for a fun new way to play fantasy, consider vampire leagues. I explained this from the point of view of fantasy football, but it can work with other sports as well. Hopefully, this helps answer the question what is a Vampire league?
