I’ll be doing a series of articles on players with a wide range of possibilities for dynasty. They could be done for fantasy or could be top assets at the position. I’ll be avoiding rookies since they’re easy targets for this type of category. I want to look at players who have at least shown signs of talent on the NFL field but not to the point where they’re currently a sure thing. We’ll start things off with the quarterback position. Here are some boom or bust QBs.
Deshaun Watson
First of all, many managers won’t touch Deshaun Watson because of his off-the-field issues. But additionally, he hasn’t been on the field enough to be a reliable fantasy asset for the past few years. That being said, he was one of the best athletic passers in the league. Also, in the few starts he had last season, he was often pretty good for fantasy. It’s possible he’s an injury-prone washed-up QB, but he could also return to form with his new weapons and become a fantasy QB1 for the next few years.
Baker Mayfield
If you were playing fantasy football in 2018, you may remember that Baker Mayfield was one of the top dynasty quarterbacks in the league. Of course, that didn’t last long and he became a real-life backup QB. His 2023 season might have revitalised his career and he finished as the fantasy QB10. The Browns gave him a new contract. But it’s the type where the Browns could still cut him after this season. If he can prove that 2023 was not a fluke and maybe even improve, he could skyrocket up dynasty rankings.
Daniel Jones
This is the biggest stretch of the trio. Daniel Jones has mostly looked bad. However, he did have a pretty good 2022 season that earned him a solid contract. Many thought he was being overpaid and he proved them right by proceeding to go back to his old ways in the 2023 season. However, the team never equipped him with great receivers. Malik Nabers is a rookie and is only one person, but he looks NFL-ready and could be by far, the best player Daniel Jones has had the privilege of throwing to. Add the possibility that he can keep his job to his rushing numbers and he could shoot up in value this season.
Wrap Up
Hopefully, this list of boom or bust QBs gave you some ideas of players you could consider buying or selling depending on your comfort level and how trade partners in your leagues may feel about them.
