This is the 20th of 32 Ceilings and Floors, covering each NFL team’s QBs, RBs, WRs, and TEs. We finish up the NFC East with the Washington Redskins. In case you missed it, here is the breakdown for the Philadelphia Eagles. (Depth Charts courtesy of footballguys.com)
Ceilings and Floors: Quarterback
QB1: Dwayne Haskins
CEILING: Haskins takes a major step forward in year two, throwing for 3,800 yards passing and 29 TDs, developing into the QB Washington envisioned he would be.
FLOOR: Haskins continues struggling at the NFL level, and starts the season as a back up.
PREDICTION: I don’t see why Haskins wouldn’t get the opportunity to show what he has considering the draft capital invested in him. I’m thinking 3,100 yards passing, 23 TDs, and enough growth for the Redskins to keep him around.
QB2: Alex Smith
CEILING: Smith makes his triumphant return to football after a truly gruesome injury. His 16 game stats look like 25 TDs and 3,600 yards.
FLOOR: Alex Smith is unable to play in 2020, and perhaps ever again. He almost died.
PREDICTION: Alex Smith is likely not going to be available to play, and even if he were, there is no guarantee he is better than the other two options at QB for Washington.
QB3: Kyle Allen
CEILING: Allen wins the QB1 out of the gate, and proceeds to throw 26 TDs along with 4,000 yards passing.
FLOOR: He loses out to Haskins, and is a backup for the entire year.
PREDICTION: Allen should have a fighting chance to win this job. Haskins has to be the front-runner, though, and I expect Haskins wins the job. Honestly no QB in Washington gets my blood flowing.
QB4: Steven Montez
CEILING: Becomes QB2, and gives himself a real shot at QB1 in 2021.
FLOOR: Perennial backup, hardly worth monitoring in fantasy.
PREDICTION: His floor is probably the likeliest scenario, I don’t see how he proves viable in the NFL.
Ceilings and Floors: Running Back
RB1: Derrius Guice
CEILING: Guice plays a full healthy season, and shows off the potential we all knew he had, scoring 12 total TDs along with 1,400 total yards.
FLOOR: Guice is injured. Again. And a promising career ends before it ever could get started.
PREDICTION: It is impossible to know if Guice can stay healthy. If they use him gently, and he holds up, I could see 9 total TDs and 1,100 yards. Still, he is as high-risk as you can get, considering he has only played in five games the last two years.
RB2: Adrian Peterson
CEILING: Just two years ago in Washington, Peterson scored 8 total TDs to go long with 1,250 total yards, and that seems to be his ceiling this late into his Hall of Fame career.
FLOOR: Guice stays healthy, Peterson serves in a reserve role and scores 3 total TDs along with 600 yards.
PREDICTION: Guice probably doesn’t stay healthy. Peterson continues climbing the all-time leaderboards with 6 TDs and 900 total yards.
RB3: Antonio Gibson
CEILING: The weapon that is Antonio Gibson is utilized all over the field. He scores 9 TDs along with 1,100 all-purpose yards. If Guice goes down, this guy is gonna get some run.
FLOOR: Gibson is misused, and he sits behind Guice and Peterson. 2 TDs, 400 total yards.
PREDICTION: I love Gibson as a total weapon, and expect him to be most valuable in PPR leagues. 7 TDs, 1,100 total yards, unless Guice makes its 16, then I will say 5 TDs, 700 yards.
RB4: J.D. McKissic, RB5: Peyton Barber, RB6: Bryce Love, RB7: Shaun Wilson
CEILING: Multiple injuries devastate Washington’s backfield, and some combo of these guys score 4 TDs along with 600 total yards.
FLOOR: Only one or two of them make the roster as special teams guys. I like their chances in the order they are listed.
PREDICTION: McKissic, Barber, and Love could theoretically make the roster due to Guice’s injury history and their ability to contribute on special teams, but they make zero waves in fantasy.
Ceilings and Floors: Wide Receiver
WR1: Terry McLaurin
CEILING: I think McLaurin might get really good a lot faster than people think, especially if QB play improves. Scary Terry could make the leap in his second year after an excellent rookie campaign. 11 TDs, 1,500 yards is possible with his ability and some consistency around him.
FLOOR: McLaurin honestly should not finish lower than the 7 TDs and 919 yards he had in 2019.
PREDICTION: McLaurin will be ranked much higher going into the 2021 season, and Washington’s QB situation isn’t permanent beyond 2020. I like him for 9 TDs and 1,200 yards, with his best yet to come in 2021 and beyond.
WR2: Kelvin Harmon
CEILING: Harmon bounces back after a disastrous rookie campaign, scoring 7 TDs along with 800 yards receiving.
FLOOR: Harmon fizzles out of the league, floundering for a second year straight with 0 TDs and 400 yards.
PREDICTION: Harmon can’t be as awful as he was last year, right? I don’t think so. I see 5 TDs and 600 yards.
WR3: Stephen Sims Jr.
CEILING: Sims builds on a quietly solid 2019 campaign, scoring 8 total TDs along with 800 total yards.
FLOOR: Sims falls down the depth chart, recording only 2 TDs and 250 yards.
PREDICTION: Sims scored 5 times in 43 touches, so he can score. I just don’t see a plethora of touches heading his way. I like 3 TDs, 500 yards.
WR4: Antonio Gandy-Golden
CEILING: 9 TDs, 900 yards, as Gandy-Golden makes the leap into the NFL with flying colors, taking over as WR2.
FLOOR: Gandy-Golden is beaten out by the guys ahead of him, a bad sign for his future in the NFL.
PREDICTION: Gandy-Golden should see a few touches his rookie year. 4 TDs, 500 yards, and room to grow. He will get better as Washington gets better
WR5: Trey Quinn
CEILING: 4 TDs, 400 yards, I just don’t believe he is as talented as some of the other guys.
FLOOR: Zero TDs, 150 yards, and somehow moves down the depth chart.
PREDICTION: Quinn is going to struggle passing most of these guys above him, and is irrelevant in fantasy.
WR6: Cam Sims, WR7: Cody Latimer, WR8: Darvin Kidsy
CEILING: Non-existent. These guys are not playing.
FLOOR: Cody Latimer is arrested on five charges. The other two just don’t make the team.
PREDICTION: None of these guys see the field in any meaningful capacity.
Ceilings and Floors: Tight End
TE1: Jeremy Sprinkle
CEILING: 5 TDs, 500 yards receiving.
FLOOR: 1 TD, 100 yards receiving.
PREDICTION: Impressive would not be a word I would use to describe Sprinkle’s career thus far. I am guessing 3 TDs and 400 yards.
TE2: Logan Thomas
CEILING: 4 TDs, 500 yards receiving for the former college QB.
FLOOR: Zero TDs, 100 yards receiving for the soon-to-be former NFL player.
PREDICTION: There is nothing impressive about the Redskins TE1 or TE2.
TE3: Richard Rodgers, TE4: Hale Hentges, TE5: Thaddeus Moss
CEILING: Thaddeus Moss has a chance to move up into the top two slots on name recognition alone.
FLOOR: All three continue posting below-average stats, even for bench players.
PREDICTION: Moss makes the team, as does Rodgers. My goodness Washington needs to address TE, and soon.
