Week 2 of the NFL has come and gone. In this series, we will be discussing the hot-hot players, honorable mentions, and biggest surprises of the week. This is all based on full PPR, single quarterback leagues and any ownership percentage is based on Yahoo ownership.
Quarterbacks
HOT-HOT – Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott has 39.80 fantasy points in Week 2. He went 34-of-47 passing for 450 yards. Dak added one throwing and three rushing touchdowns. Dak has the Seahawks on deck next who is currently ranked as number 30 against quarterbacks. Prescott should be in for another big day in Week 3.
Honorable Mention – Cam Newton
Newton had 34.58 fantasy points. He went 30-of-44 for 397 yards while also adding 1 throwing and 2 rushing touchdowns against the Seattle Seahawks. Cam has The Las Vegas Raiders this coming week who have actually been decent against quarterbacks ranking in at number seven so far on the year. While we should acknowledge and respect what the Raiders have done so far they have yet to face this kind of dual-threat quarterback yet. My prediction: Cam continues his road as a QB1 this week. Start him with confidence going forward.
Biggest Surprise – Ryan Fitzpatrick
Finishing as the number nine quarterback of the week and putting up 24.32 fantasy points, Ryan Fitzpatrick was 31-of-47 for 328 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Thursday nights game should get interesting as he faces a Jaguars defense ranked 22nd against quarterbacks. Thursday night football could turn into a bit of a shootout.
Running Backs
HOT-HOT –Aaron Jones
Jones had 18 rush attempts for 168 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground. Also, he caught 4 passes for 68 yards and another score. Might see a little more of Jones in the coming weeks if Adams is either out or limited in the coming games. He has the Saints on the docket next who are a middle of the pack defense against running backs at 15th. Jones should continue you see solid RB1 type production this week.
Honorable Mention – Alvin Kamara
Kamara made the most of his rush attempts this week putting up a stat line of 13 rushes for 79 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Alvin Kamara also has 9 receptions through the air for an additional 95 yards. With Michael Thomas sidelined, the Saints’ biggest weapon by far is Kamara. Look for more of the same type of volume here in Week 3 against a Green Bay defense ranked 21st against running backs.
Biggest Surprise – Leonard Fournette
Fournette had 12 rushes on the day for 103 yards and 2 touchdowns while also adding 4 catches for 13 yards. Fournette finished as the RB3 in Week 2 with 27.60 fantasy points. I am not expecting a repeat performance in the coming weeks as Tampa faces the Broncos (seventh) and Chargers (third) in their next two games. I do however feel at the very least he is a fine flex play going forward. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of splits he’ll have with Ronald Jones this week. It will be telling for future weeks.
Wide Receivers
HOT-HOT – Calvin Ridley
Ridley scored 29.90 in Week 2 making his second appearance in this series. He had 7 catches for 109 and 2 touchdowns. Following along from what I mentioned last week, he has a nice soft schedule to start the season. I still look for him to have a pretty decent day even against a tough Chicago Bears WR defense that is ranked 26th to start the season.
Honorable Mention – Stefon Diggs
Diggs has been off to a surprisingly hot start himself. In Week 2 he caught 8-of-13 targets for 153 yards and 1 touchdown. Diggs draws Jalen Ramsey this weekend, so it might not be the best weekend to trot Diggs out there. He has a couple of middle of the road defenses after that in The Raiders and the Titans respectively.
Biggest Surprise – Julian Edelman
Believe it or not, Julian Edelman had set the bar for himself achieving the most receiving yards in a game for his career. He posted a stat line of 8 receptions for 179 yards and put up 25.90 fantasy points; making Edelman the WR3 for Week 3. So far Edelman has been PPR WR6 to start the season and had a big Sunday night performance against the Seahawks. So far, it doesn’t look like he has lost a beat with Brady no longer there.
Tight Ends
HOT-HOT – Darren Waller
Waller has been the Las Vegas Raiders’ biggest weapon so far here in 2020. He caught 12 balls on Monday night for 103 yards and 1 touchdown. That gave him 28.50 fantasy points in Week 2. The Raiders have the tough Patriots defense in Week 3 but still, look for Waller to have a solid outing given the other lack of weapons on this offense. Game script-wise what worries me this week is a plan which could see a lot of Josh Jacobs.
Honorable Mention – Tyler Higbee
Higbee pretty much destroyed the Eagles defense singlehandedly. 3 touchdowns on 5 caught balls for an additional 54 yards and 28.40 fantasy points. He continues to be utilized in this offense and the people that took the gamble on him early should be happy with the results so far here in 2020. He should continue to see a nice little workload here in Week 3 against Buffalo, but his schedule does get rough down the stretch. I would be looking to trade him off his hot start after Week 5.
Biggest Surprise – Jordan Reed
Talk about a little resurgence, catching 7 balls for 50 yards and 2 touchdowns and 24 points in Week 2. Week 3 could look like more of the same if George Kittle is out or limited against The Giants. If Kittle is to play he will be more effective and Reed should go back to his natural backup role.
HOT-HOT – ST. Jude Belly Up Bowl Highest Scorer – @ChairmenFantasy
@ChairmenFantasy was the highest scorer of the week in all of the Belly Up Bowl in Week 2. Shout out to them. Just look at his squad with a total of 173.70
