Week 10 offers plenty of intriguing fantasy matchups for some players who might have fallen out of favor with the daily fantasy crowds. Lets take a dive into some of the daily fantasy studs I like best heading into Sunday.
Daily Fantasy Stud 1: Robert Woods
Robert Woods has been boom or bust this season, which causes his season long owners to rip out their hair, and the daily fantasy owners to avoid him. This week, the Rams are coming off their bye to play the Seattle “We Only Try On Offense” Seahawks. The Seahawks defense is giving up 33 points per game over the last four games, and a ton of the damage is coming through the air. In fact, over that span, teams are passing for 323 yards per game. The three outside corners for the Seahawks have given up 10 touchdowns and opposing QBs have a rating well over 100 when targeting all three. This defense is the maker of daily fantasy studs. The Rams should have no issues chuckin’ it on Sunday, and I don’t think its very bold of me to say it will be a high scoring game.
Why is Woods the stud here? Why not Cooper Kupp? Well, you can certainly make the case for both. Last week, Stefon Diggs caught 9 of 12 targets for 118 yards, while John Brown reeled in 8 of 11 for 99 yards himself. Keep in mind that Cole Beasley, the Bills slot receiver, only caught 3 for 39. Now, I get that Cooper Kupp is many tiers above Beasley, but I believe this also pushes the needle a bit into Woods’ favor. I give Woods a better chance of seeing the end zone as well, especially cause the Rams love utilizing him in the run game. He has two more scores this season than Kupp. Lastly, Woods is $6,600 on DraftKings, vs. Kupp’s price tag of $6,900.
Stud 2: Deshaun Watson
Deshaun is a fantasy stud in every sense of the word. After a bye and a very dull matchup against the Jags, not a lot of people are talking about how good Watson has been. His production also gets buried in a 2-6 record and you can’t help but think his talent is being wasted in Houston. Well, maybe there’s better days ahead for the Texans since they parted ways with “Butt Chin” O’Brien.
Anyway, Watson has racked up 11 passing touchdowns in the last four games. His lowest fantasy output on DraftKings over that span has been 24.2. Yeah, that’s what I’d call a high floor. Plus, he has been seeing a little more action on the ground his last two games. I imagine he will be forced to scramble a good amount this Sunday, running away from Myles Garrett and his NFL leading 9 sacks. Besides Garrett, the Browns defense has not struck fear into many opposing QB’s eyes. They are giving up 27 points per game to opposing offenses (including only 16 in that hurricane weather game vs. the Raiders). David Johnson is out this week, so I see any and all production coming from Watson this week. He holds a very reasonable price tag of $6,900 on DraftKings.
Stud 3: Tyler Lockett
Back to those Seattle “We Only Try On Offense” Seahawks. Seattle is decimated at the running back position, as if Pete Carroll needed any other reason to #letrusscook. Wilson is throwing for 317 yards per game and already has 28 touchdowns. The Seattle receivers are going to get some work, that’s a given.
Lockett is having a similar season to Robert Woods. On DraftKings, Lockett has scored 40+ points on two occasions, and less than 10 four times! Talk about a true boom or bust candidate. Bust candidates are rarely daily fantasy studs, but Lockett is different. The Rams have been stingy on defense, especially against the pass. Lockett does have a great matchup in the slot vs. Troy Hill, who has allowed a 96% passer rating to opposing QBs.
Wilson’s other favorite target, D.K. Metcalf, will have a much tougher matchup on the outside, going against Jalen Ramsey most of the game. I’m not so sure Ramsey can lock down Metcalf, but it will most likely be a matchup Wilson chooses to avoid. Remember against the Cards, when Metcalf was lined up against Patrick Peterson most of the game? Lockett recorded 15 catches (on 20 targets!?!), 200 yards and 3 TDs, for a massive 56 points on DraftKings.
Alternative Daily Fantasy Stud: Mike Davis
With CMC doubtful coming into the matchup against #tompaBay, I see Davis sliding comfortably back into the bell cow roll he did so well in during CMC’s original absence. Davis averaged over 17 points per game while McCafferey was out. He also got it done in the pass game, seeing almost 6 targets per game.
The Bucs are very stingy against the run, and Davis did have a couple of duds right before CMC came back. However, the Bucs did give up over 100 rushing yards the last two games, and at a price of only $4,000, I think Davis can outperform that price tag by a large margin. I think Davis will see a large workload in the pass game as well. The Bucs allowed CMC and Davis to both be daily fantasy studs in their first matchup. They combined for 12 catches for 103 yards in back in Week 2. Davis also gives you the flexibility to fill some of your roster out with those really high priced pimps.
Other Candidates
I did not want to put these guys in the stud category, because they certainly are not studs, but there are a few plays I really like this week. The first would be Duke Johnson. With the absence of David Johnson, Duke almost becomes a must play with his $5,000 price tag.
If you’re with me on Woods, I think getting Goff in at QB makes a lot of sense. Again, the “We Only Try On Offense” Seahawks shouldn’t give the Rams much trouble anywhere.
Brandin Cooks is a very solid stack with Deshaun, going for a very reasonable $5,600 on DraftKings.
TJ Hockenson seems to be one of Stafford’s favorite targets with Golladay out, and it looks as if Golladay will miss Sunday’s contest against the Washington Football Team.
You can never really go wrong with Kyler Murray. He is the definition of stud, not just a daily fantasy stud. His $8,000 price tag is little difficult to justify if you want a complete lineup.
