College Saturday Special: Basketball and Football Picks

Man do we get spoiled this Saturday. When College Football and Basketball cross paths, it results in the greatest couple of weeks of the sports calendar. We have teams trying to get a bid into the College Football Playoff with College Basketball teams simultaneously trying to build their resume for March Madness. This being said there is some money to be won on Saturday. Let’s cash in with the College Saturday Special!

College Football

Texas A&M (-6.5) versus Auburn

This is a very intriguing game. Jimbo Fisher and the #5 Aggies face off against the Auburn Tigers on Saturday. You could say this is a must win for both teams. From A&M’s point of view they need to make a statement against Auburn to possibly slip into the College Football Playoff. The also need some luck to happen across the country but they need to take care of business themselves first. With that being said I think the Aggies are going to trample on Auburn. Auburn is coming off of a demoralizing Iron Bowl loss to Alabama and I don’t see much of a difference in their matchup here.

Gus Malzahn could be coaching to keep his job as there has been some speculation down in Auburn, but I don’t think it will be enough. The first College Saturday pick, take the Aggies who are 2-1 against the spread away.

The Pick: Texas A&M -6.5

Oklahoma State (-0.5) versus TCU

The #15 Oklahoma State Cowboys head to Fort Worth to take on the 4-4 TCU Horned Frogs. Here’s another must win situation on Saturday. Oklahoma State needs to win to have a shot at playing in the Big 12 Championship. Mike Gundy and the Cowboys are coming off of a win against Texas Tech as they put up a 50 burger on the Red Raiders. I don’t see any slowing down here. TCU has been a very interesting team by beating a Top 10 Texas team but also losing to an unranked Kansas State team who now is 4-5 overall.

I’m taking the better team with the Cowboys in a must win game in Fort Worth.

The Pick: Oklahoma State -0.5

BYU versus Coastal Carolina (+10.5)

Coastal Carolina moves up to No. 20 in AP poll, No. 21 in coaches poll | Myrtle Beach Sports | postandcourier.com

No doubt about it, this is the best matchup of the weekend. The battle of the Mid-Majors, the undefeated #13 BYU Cougars travel to Myrtle Beach to face the undefeated #18 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on the turquoise turf. Both 9-0 squads are looking for a ranked win so they can shake up the College Football Playoff rankings. They’ll need way more than this one ranked win but this will start a run. This game actually wasn’t going to be played until Liberty had to cancel their matchup with Coastal Carolina due to COVID-19. This game could flow so many different ways with the two teams not knowing they’d be playing each other until two days before. Not only is this a game between two undefeated teams, but both are also 7-1-1 against the spread.

This will not be enough time for the Cougars to get a 10.5 point edge against another undefeated opponent. With my favorite College Saturday pick, I like the Chanticleers to keep it close. Take Coastal in a close battle.

The Pick: Coastal Carolina +10.5

College Basketball

Baylor(+3.5) versus Gonzaga

No. 1 Baylor stifles Florida 72-61 for 16th straight victory - ABC News

Wow. We get a #1 versus #2 matchup on the second game of the season. The #2 Baylor Bears take on the #1 Gonzaga Bulldogs. As we got to watch both of these two teams in action against top 10 opponents n Wednesday, one showed a dominant performance. That was the Baylor Bears. Baylor rolled over #5 Illinois in the second half and ended up winning by double digits. Gonzaga struggled against #11 West Virginia but eventually pulled off the single digit win in the last few minutes. They struggled the most when freshman guard Jalen Scruggs limped off the court. I think this game is going to come down to how healthy Jalen Scruggs is. No matter what, I think this will be a very close game.

It could swing both ways but I’m going with Baylor. Take the Bears who are searching for their second Top five win of the week.

The Pick: Baylor +3.5

The odds are via Draft Kings and are subject to change.
