Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire: Week 2

The NBA season is back! We have seen everything from blowouts to overtime games, but generally speaking, there seems to be competitive basketball being played regardless of having little to no fans at each stadium. Throughout the year, I will be providing weekly waiver wire pickup suggestions that are mainly for nine category leagues. The picks are also based on players being rostered in less than 25-percent of teams. With Week 1 of fantasy basketball in the books, here are some waiver wire pickups for Week 2.

SF Darius Bazley, OKC (UTAH, ORL, DAL, NO)

Darius Bazley is arguably the Thunder’s second most important player and still rostered in less than 15-percent of leagues. During the Thunder’s first game, Bazley played 32 minutes and had 15 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block while shooting seven of twelve from the floor and one of five from three. Bazley has the talent to fill the stat sheet across the board and has not reached his ceiling. The Thunder have four games on their schedule for Week 2, which would give him ample opportunity to produce.

SF Kyle Anderson (@BKN, @BOS, @CHA, LAL)

Kyle Anderson has thrived thus far with Jaren Jackson Jr. still sidelined to start the year. Anderson is a long forward that has the ability to get double-digit rebounds as shown in the two games that Memphis has played so far this season. Although it was a small sample size, he did average 13.5 points, 12 rebounds, and 1.5 three’s made over the two games as a starter. With four games this week, he should help provide value in rebounds, field goal percentage, points, and the occasional three pointer.

SG Alec Burks, NYK (@CLE, @TOR, @IND)

Alec Burks has been thriving in his sixth man role for a surprisingly competitive Knicks team. Burks averaged 20.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 3.3 three pointers made while shooting 53-percent from the field and 90-percent from the line. The Knicks play three games this week, which should give Burks enough opportunity to continue his microwave scoring. He should help in all shooting categories with the occasional assists and rebounds. Considering Burks is only rostered in 18-percent of fantasy basketball teams, now is the time to grab him while he continues his hot stretch off the bench.

SG/SF Joe Harris BKN (MEM, ATL, ATL, WSH)

Look for Joe Harris to figure out how to play basketball soon after a slow start.

Joe Harris has not had great statistical games to start the season, but he still should be added considering he is only owned in 25-percent of leagues. He does have a defined role as a three-point specialist while Kyrie and Durant do most of the heavy lifting. What changes now is the season-ending injury to Spencer Dinwiddie. Harris may be asked to have a much larger role and can be one of the league leaders in three pointers made. If there was one week to speculatively add Harris, it is Week 2. The Nets have four basketball games this week that all have a chance to be high scoring affairs. Harris should provide immediate help in all shooting categories.

PF/C Chris Boucher, TOR (@PHI, NYK, @NO)

Chris Boucher is a backup but should provide quality stats for your fantasy basketball team.

Chris Boucher also comes off the bench, but sometimes it’s better to own the backup than the actual starter. Through two games this season, he has averaged 17 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.5 blocks, while shooting 71-percent from the field. He also was three of four from deep his last game out. Boucher can give you points, blocks, rebounds, and the occasionalthree on limited minutes. Anyone with the ability to defend and shoot like him should never be left on the waiver wire. If Baynes were to ever get injured, Boucher’s value would skyrocket even more. The Raptors have three games for Week 2, and Boucher should provide good production even in limited minutes. Pick him up and reap the rewards.

C Bismack Biyombo, CHA (@DAL, @MEM, PHI)

Bismack Biyombo is now the starting center for the Charlotte Hornets Basketball team.

Bismack Biyombo is now the starting center for the Hornets after Cody Zeller suffered an injury that would sideline him 4-6 weeks. In the two games Biyombo started, he averaged 8.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 blocks, while shooting 54-percent from the field. With time, Biyombo has the ability to flirt with a double-double every night on good efficiency with the occasional block. The Hornets play three games with two against physical teams in the Grizzlies and Sixers. The Hornets will need Biyombo’s big body against them to have a chance to win.
