Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire: Week 7

It is now fantasy basketball waiver wire: week 7. Teams look to be coming back to their regularly scheduled games. Hopefully, everyone stays safe and there are no more postponements anytime soon. We have a variety of pickups that could be available in your leagues this week. We have a player emerging into the rookie of the year conversation, multiple players slowly returning to form from injury, and bench players who are producing with bigger roles. Many of these players are both good for the upcoming week and have great long-term fantasy potential. It is up to you to decide what categories your team needs help in and act accordingly.

As always, do not feel obligated to pick up anyone if you do not have room on your roster. I will be providing weekly waiver wire pickup suggestions that are mainly for nine-category leagues. The picks are based on players being rostered in less than 30-percent of fantasy basketball teams. Here are some waiver wire pickups for week 7.

PG Immanuel Quickley, NY (@CHI, @CHI, POR, MIA)

Coming into the season, many doubted Immanuel Quickley at the next level. Those doubts should be long gone. This past week Quickley averaged 18.7 points, 4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.3 three-pointers made while shooting 92% from the free-throw line. The difference is that this might be just the start of his rise. He is still a young rookie, but once he figures out the game, I would not be surprised if coach Thibs gives him a chance to start for the Knicks. He is a good add for this week considering the Knicks have four games, but he also fits long-term because of his potential. Add him if you can.

PG Reggie Jackson, LAC (@BKN, @CLE, BOS, SAC)

Need guard help? Pick up Reggie Jackson on the fantasy basketball waiver wire while Patrick Beverley is injured

Since Patrick Beverley remains out with injury, Reggie Jackson will continue to be one of the primary ball handlers playing as the starting point guard. As the starter, Jackson averaged 16 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1.5 three-pointers made while shooting 48-percent from the field. Yes, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George were out because of COVID protocol for a couple of games. But even when they came back, Jackson was able to produce. He has become a reliable 3rd option for the Clippers and has the ability to continue that role even when Beverley comes back from injury. The Clippers have four games this week.

SG Gary Trent Jr., POR (@MIL, @WAS, @PHI, @NY)

Last week, I said Rodney Hood would benefit the most from the absence from CJ. I was wrong. Hood still seems to be working his way back from injury. The starting shooting guard spot now belongs to Gary Trent Jr. This past week as a starter, Trent has averaged 21 points, 5 three-pointers made, and 2.3 steals while shooting 49% from the field. If you need help in any shooting categories, Trent should provide massive help in points and three-pointers made. The Blazers also play four games this week to help his cause.

SG Derrick White, SA (MEM, MIN, @HOU)

Derrick White finally came back from injury. In his first game back, White had 18 points, 3 three-pointers made, and 2 steals while shooting 55-percent from the field in only 21 minutes. Even though he came off the bench, he should steadily make his way back into the starting lineup in no time. The Spurs only play three games this week, but if you have the roster spot available, he is also a great long-term option. He provides value all across the board and the Spurs are going to need him if they want to be back in the playoffs.

SF/PF Thaddeus Young, CHI (NY, NY, @ORL, @ORL)

Thaddeus Young is playing efficient basketball, and is still on the fantasy basketball waiver wire

The Chicago Bulls have been struggling at the Center position with Wendell Carter Jr. now out for multiple weeks with a quad injury. The main beneficiary is Thaddeus Young. Although he is not traditionally a center, He has played both backup power forward and backup center to fantastic fantasy results. In the past two games without Carter, Young has averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists while shooting 54-percent from the field. The Bulls do not have many low post options and need to play through Young at times when they go to their second unit. He should consistently produce until Carter gets back. The Bulls play four games this week.

PF Jarred Vanderbilt, MIN (@CLE, @SA, @OKC, @OKC)

Jarred Vanderbilt is a must for fantasy basketball waiver wire pickups

The Timberwolves roster is still trying to figure itself out. Naz Ried was a great replacement last week, but with Towns possibly coming back soon, Jarred Vanderbilt would be the better pick up this week. Towns would most likely take Ried’s spot as the starting center leaving Vanderbilt with still a good opportunity to produce. This past week without Towns, Vanderbilt averaged 8.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1.3 blocks while shooting 68-percent from the field. He does not play a ton of minutes but provides good value in the defensive categories. The Timberwolves play four games this week to make the most of his defensive potential.

C Cody Zeller, CHA (@MIA, PHI, UTAH, WAS)

Cody Zeller has worked his way back into the starting lineup to great results. In the past three games in which he started, Zeller averaged 9.7 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 4 assists while shooting 47-percent from the field. He looks to be getting in a solid groove now with his new teammates and does not look like he’s slowing down anytime soon. The Hornets have four games this week; three of them against bigger physical big men. They will need Zeller to counteract those big teams and should play a decent amount to provide good value.
