Belly Up Auction Mock: Guest Analysis

Hey everyone, each Saturday, Belly Up hosts and live streams weekly mock drafts! Our goal here at Belly Up Fantasy Sports is to get you as prepared as possible for your draft day! Today, Travis Sumpter, Billy Whitt, Ryan Hicks, and Nate Herman will be teaming up to analyze this week’s guest’s top four picks. This week, Chris Robin, also known as @DetroitBeastie on twitter, joined us. Chris is a lead writer for dfscheatsheet.com and makes lots of guests appearances on podcasts and live shows. This week’s mock draft was a 10 team auction mock. Each team had $200 to spend. Without further ado, let’s get right into it!

Chris Robin’s Top Four Picks

Davante Adams: $47

Travis:

Oh man, where do I start. First and foremost DetroitBeastie knows his stuff.  After we drafted, he gave me some insight into his draft strategy that he wanted me to share with everyone. He says “First was just my strategy, don’t spend a ton of money early on and then I’m able to use it later on in the draft when everybody’s out of money.”  I loved his energy and enthusiasm throughout our live video as well.

So, his highest amount spent on one individual player was that of Davante Adams at $47. I have Davante Adams as my WR2 and am buying shares of him all over the place. DetroitBeastie and I had a bidding war for Davante Adams. In the end, I had to sadly let him pass, but DetroitBeastie still got him at excellent value. The freak injury last year hurt Adams’s stock. With the lack of other receiving options in Green Bay, Adams is poised for a huge year. I loved the value, loved the pick, and had a lot of fun with DetroitBeastie and hope to do it again soon.

Joe Mixon: $45

Auction Mock

Billy:

An awesome addition to the live mock, DetroitBeastie, didn’t chase any early, pricey nominations.  Bengals’ RB Joe Mixon is a solid acquisition due to his 2019 volume and production.  Mixon was tied for fifth in the NFL in carries with 278 for 1137 rushing yards.  That level of volume is what fantasy owners dream of.  His 5 rushing TDs are a bit underwhelming, but add in his 35 receptions for another 287 yards & 3 TDs and we’re talking about a true featured back with enormous upside.

DetroitBeastie is valuing the Oklahoma product a bit higher than some other RBs in the same tier.  At $37, Dalvin Cook’s price made Mixon’s price seem a bit spendy. However, Mixon is an underrated pass catcher and will have a real opportunity to progress his receiving production. With number one overall pick Joe Burrow under center, Mixon will see fewer stacked boxes. If Joe Mixon gets a few more rushing TDs and any progression in the passing game out of Mixon, we could easily be talking about a top-five fantasy running back in 2020.

Kenny Golladay: $33

Auction Mock

Ryan:

DetroitBeastie got Kenny Golladay for $33, and I love that price for him. Golladay led the NFL in TD catches last year with 11. He also added 1,190 yards on 116 targets, catching 65 balls from David Blough and Jeff Driskel. Matt Stafford is back baby! A healthy Stafford should unlock Golladay’s full potential. I expect him to catch more passes and could see him getting close to duplicating his 18.3 yards per catch in 2019, which was third in the league.

At 6’4”, Golladay is a red-zone monster, and his snap counts have climbed each year, up to 87 percent in 2019. Marvin Jones is an excellent WR2, the Detroit run game should be much better in 2020, and the arrow is pointing up for Golladay, who is currently seventh in Belly Up Fantasy’s consensus rankings. He is among a handful of WRs who could conceivably finish the year as WR1 in fantasy. Adding Golladay with Adams makes his receiving corps as stacked as they come.

James Conner: $17

Auction Mock

Nate:

DetroitBeasite picked up James Conner for $17. Although Conner was banged up last year and didn’t put up great numbers, I’m pretty high on Conner going into the season. In 2018, Conner appeared in 13 games. In those 13 games, Conner rushed 215 times for 973 yards and 12 TDs. If Conner played in 16 games that season, he could have very well ended up with 1,100 plus rushing yards and 14 TDs.

Along with Conner’s amazing rushing numbers, he also was involved in the passing game, as he recorded 55 receptions for 497 yards and 1 TD. Conner can fight his way into the endzone while being a solid receiving back. The talent for Conner is there. The only question is his health. I currently have James Conner as my RB17, but if he can play in 14 or more games, I can see Conner finishing as a top 14 RB. Picking up James Conner for $17 in this week’s auction mock draft was a great value pick for DetroitBeastie, as he has the potential to have a monster season. DetroitBeastie drafted a solid foundation with a good amount of money left in this week’s auction mock.
