Brewers Rookies Are Building Fantasy Value

The Milwaukee Brewers have opened the season with a hot start. While they have star pitchers in Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff, three rookies are a big reason for their early success. Brewers manager Craig Counsell has entrusted these young players by having at least two in the lineup each game. Just six games into the new season though, these players are not just helping their team, but they are helping fantasy teams as well. These three Brewers rookies are building fantasy value in a short amount of time.

The Brewers Rookies are led by Garrett Mitchell.

Garrett Mitchell, OF

Mitchell joined the Brewers at the end of the 2022 season playing in 28 games. In his short stint last year, he had two home runs, nine RBIs, and eight stolen bases. He showed enough last year and this spring to win the starting center fielder job in Milwaukee. In six games so far he already has three home runs and five RBIs. While he is yet to steal a base, Mitchell has proven to be a mainstay in the Brewers lineup.

Brice Turang, 2B

Turang was a top prospect in the Brewers organization, and he has transitioned to the Majors seamlessly. The Crew traded away veteran Kolten Wong this off-season, so Turang had big shoes to fill. Starting Opening Day in his MLB debut, Turang looked like he belongs. In six games the young middle infielder has one home run, a grand slam, five RBIs, and two stolen bases. His speed has been on display early, and with a .313 average, he only strikes out 10.5 percent of the time.

Three Brewers rookies are building fantasy value, and Joey Wiemer has the highest upside.

Joey Wiemer, OF

Wiemer took advantage of his opportunities this Spring and was called up for his Major League debut after the injury to Luis Urias in game one. Wiemer has a .353 average after five games. He has one home run, three RBIs, and one stolen base. His great arm, speed, and plate discipline appear to have him locked into a regular role as the starting right fielder.

What to Expect?

With three rookies all playing important roles, the Brewers seem to be committed to these young prospects. It is rare to have three rookies on one team provide fantasy value, but these three have value. Mitchell and Turang have slightly more value than Weimer, but that could change if Wiemer’s power starts to show.
