This is the 17th of 32 Ceilings and Floors, covering each NFL team’s QBs, RBs, WRs, and TEs. We move to the NFC East, and the Dallas Cowboys. In case you missed it, here is the breakdown for the Los Angeles Chargers. (Depth Charts courtesy of footballguys.com)
Ceilings and Floors: Quarterback
QB1: Dak Prescott
CEILING: 5,200 passing yards, 35 pass TDs; 400 rush yards, 8 rush TDs. Dak continues improving, and Dallas makes a real run.
FLOOR: 3,800 passing yards, 25 pass TD; 200 rush yards, 3 rush TD. Dak has peaked, and so has Dallas.
PREDICTION: I struggle with Dak. The numbers, weapons, and situation are fantastic, but Jason Garrett is gone, and the Dallas offense brings in Mike McCarthy. I think Dak responds well, throwing for 4,800 yards and 32 TDs, rushing for 300 yards, 5 TDs. P.S., I am not that confident.
QB2: Andy Dalton
CEILING: Dak goes down in the preseason, and the Red Rifle is handed the keys to this potent offense. He responds with 4,300 yards, and 34 TDs.
FLOOR: He never plays, and Gingers everywhere revolt in protest.
PREDICTION: He isn’t going to play, but he is definitely valuable as a Dak handcuff, because he has proven he can start in the NFL, and the weapons are numerous in this offense. If you have Dak, get him late.
QB3: Ben DiNucci
CEILING: He pours drinks for Jerry Jones on his yacht, and is promised garbage time snaps because he doesn’t spill anything.
FLOOR: He spills Ouzo all over the Jones family, and is forbidden from entering The Star or Jerry World.
PREDICTION: He is going to be very careful pouring drinks. Dallas has nice facilities.
Ceilings and Floors: Running Back
RB1: Ezekiel Elliot
CEILING: The offense does well in McCarthy’s first year, and Zeke reaps the benefits. 19 total TDs, 2,200 total yards, and MVP consideration for Zeke.
FLOOR: 10 total TDs, 1,300 yards, and about as safe as you can get in fantasy football.
PREDICTION: Zeke is primed for a big year in Dallas. Sign me up for 15 total TDs and 1,900 total yards. He is a surefire superstar.
RB2: Tony Pollard
CEILING: Zeke misses time, and Pollard fills in admirably. 8 TDs, 1,000 total yards.
FLOOR: Zeke continues feasting, Pollard is used to occasionally spell him, and finishes the year with 3 TDs and 400 scrimmage yards.
PREDICTION: I like Pollard, but Zeke really squashes his potential. I see 4 TDs and 600 total yards.
RB3: Jordan Chunn
CEILING: Special teams contributions help Dallas all year.
FLOOR: Brings Zeke a bowl of food after every first down. Opens a restaurant in 2021.
PREDICTION: RB3 guys make rosters, but Chunn will not be relevant barring extreme circumstances.
Ceilings and Floors: Wide Receiver
WR1: Amari Cooper
CEILING: Cooper feasts in this high-powered offense, scoring 14 TDs to go along with 1,400 yards receiving.
FLOOR: 6 TDs, 800 yards, and a pretty safe floor. Gotta love consistent production.
PREDICTION: Cooper is still WR1 in Dallas, and Dak having a good year will translate significantly for Cooper. 10 TDs, 1,200 yards. Dallas is gonna be good for fantasy players.
WR2: Michael Gallup
CEILING: Gallup continues his progression, emerging as another star in Dallas, catching 10 TDs to go along with 1,300 yards receiving.
FLOOR: Gallup is passed up by Lamb, and his progression is stunted by a lack of touches. 3 TDs, 500 yards.
PREDICTION: It is very hard to tell what Lamb is going to do to Gallup’s stock moving forward. Still, I trust his development and think 8 TDs and 1,000 yards is very doable.
WR3: CeeDee Lamb
CEILING: Lamb explodes onto the scene, instantly becoming Dallas’ WR2, scoring 11 TDs to go along with 1,300 yards receiving.
FLOOR: Lamb transitions slowly into the NFL, and the other two overshadow him. 3 TDs, 600 yards.
PREDICTION: This could be a pretty wicked three-headed monster in Dallas. I think Lamb does well and forces Dallas to get him more touches in 2021. 7 TDs, 800 yards.
WR4: Ventell Bryant
CEILING: An injury lets Bryant move into the top three, which allows him to score four times. He adds 500 receiving yards.
FLOOR: He falls down the depth chart and sees no real action.
PREDICTION: I like Devin Smith better, and don’t think there is much value to be had with Bryant.
WR5: Devin Smith
CEILING: Smith emerges as a deep threat that opens the offense for everyone, and scores 5 TDs along with 700 yards receiving.
FLOOR: Smith struggles to see the field, or stay healthy. He becomes irrelevant due to the superior weapons above him.
PREDICTION: Smith, if healthy, is going to be a weapon for Dallas. 4 TDs, 500 yards, and some other team will try to acquire him in 2021.
WR6: Cedrick Wilson, WR7: Noah Brown, WR8: Jon’Vea Johnson, WR9: Aaron Parker, WR10: Kendrick Rogers, WR11: Stephen Guidry
CEILING: These guys have some potential between them, but no way do any of them contribute in any meaningful way without Dallas being devastated by injuries.
FLOOR: They are unfollowed by the Cowboys on Twitter. They start a group chat with Dez Bryant to complain about not playing.
PREDICTION: Dez texts at least two of them this year to get together for lunch.
Ceilings and Floors: Tight End
TE1: Blake Jarwin
CEILING: 7 TDs, 650 yards as the Cowboys’ undisputed TE1.
FLOOR: 3 TDs, 350 yards as a not-very-good TE.
PREDICTION: Jarwin gets a real shot to show what he has this year. I think he is serviceable. 5 TDs, 500 yards.
TE2: Dalton Schultz
CEILING: Jarwin under performs or goes down, and Shultz responds with 6 TDs, 600 yards.
FLOOR: Zero TDs, six yards. Those were his 16 game stats last year. It could be ugly again.
PREDICTION: If Jarwin stays healthy, he won’t contribute much. If Jarwin gets injured, he won’t contribute much.
TE3: Blake Bell, TE4: Sean McKeon, TE5: Charlie Taumoepeau
CEILING: I think there is a real shot one of these guys contributes, but lack of experience and production makes it hard knowing who. Dallas seems weak at TE, but the WR skill should hide it.
FLOOR: None of them play, and Dallas trades for a TE midseason.
PREDICTION: Avoid these and the other Dallas TEs if you are looking for anything special.
