Ceilings and Floors: Denver Broncos

This is the 13th of 32 Ceilings and Floors, covering each NFL team’s QBs, RBs, WRs, and TEs. We now move to the AFC West, and the Denver Broncos. In case you missed it, here is the breakdown for the Tennessee Titans. (Depth Charts courtesy of footballguys.com)

Ceilings and Floors: Quarterback

QB1: Drew Lock

CEILING: Lock benefits greatly from the arsenal surrounding him and continues progressing in front of our eyes. Denver lights up defenses, and Lock throws for 34 TDs and 4,200 yards.

FLOOR: Lock shows little improvement in his first full year as the starter. Denver falters and goes QB hunting in 2021. 19 TDs, 2,900 yards.

PREDICTION: Lock has been set up for success, and I think he is going to do well because of it. I like 29 TDs and 3,500 yards as he continues maturing.

QB2: Jeff Driskel

CEILING: Lock goes down before the season starts, handing the reins to Driskel, who proceeds to lead all that talent directly towards a high draft pick. 20 TDs, 3,000 yards. This isn’t happening.

FLOOR: Yearlong backup, who’s primary duties are John Elway head massages.

PREDICTION: Elway hires a professional for his head massages.

QB3: Brett Rypien

CEILING: Rypien beats out Driskel for the number two job. Lock goes down pre-season, and Rypien plays well enough to convince Elway he is the QB of the future. His uncle Mark buys season tickets. 28 TDs, 3,500 yards.

FLOOR: He is beat out by Driskel. How low can you go? His primary duties consist of John Elway foot massages.

PREDICTION: It is funny to imagine the floor, but I am expecting he wins QB2.

Ceilings and Floors: Running Back

Ceilings and Floors
RB1: Melvin Gordon

CEILING: Gordon seizes control of the RB touches while taking advantage of the weapons around him. 15 total TDs, 1,600 total yards.

FLOOR: Gordon loses the bulk of the touches to Lindsay and takes on more of a complementary role. 7 total TDs, 800 total yards.

PREDICTION: I think Gordon gets more than half of the RB touches and performs well. 10 total TDs, 1,200 total yards.

RB2: Phillip Lindsay

CEILING: Lindsay outperforms Gordon, taking the majority of the touches, and has himself a year. 12 total TDs, 1,300 total yards.

FLOOR: Gordon dominates, and Lindsay is forced to fight for scraps. 5 TDs, 700 yards.

PREDICTION: Lindsay is a solid player, Gordon will eat into his touches, but he should still be playable. 9 total TDs, 950 total yards.

RB3: Royce Freeman

CEILING: One of the big two go down, Freeman gets more touches, and responds with 8 total TDs and 900 yards.

FLOOR: He barely plays, the other two hog all the glory, and Freeman scores 2 TDs to go with 300 total yards.

PREDICTION: The Gordon signing murdered Freeman’s value. I could see 3 TDs and 400 yards. His fantasy owners must be upset. Thankfully, I am not one of you.

RB4: Khalfani Muhammad, RB5: LeVante Bellamy

CEILING: Bellamy has some future potential, but neither of these guys contributes this year.

FLOOR: Bellamy has no future potential, neither of these guys makes the team.

PREDICTION: These guys are on inexpensive contracts and can contribute on special teams.

Ceilings and Floors: Wide Receiver

Ceilings and Floors
WR1: Courtland Sutton

CEILING: The Broncos get Courtland Sutton, NFL Superstar. 12 TDs, 1,400 yards and room to grow.

FLOOR: Sutton suffers from the talent added to the roster, the ball is shared more, and he has 7 TDs and 1,100 yards.

PREDICTION: The floor for Sutton is really nice. He is going to have a good year, you don’t have that 2019 performance with the QB disarray Denver had last year, and regress. Sutton is here. He is probably under-ranked on everybody’s lists. 10 TDs, 1,200 yards, with the best yet to come.

WR2: Jerry Jeudy

CEILING: Jeudy wins Rookie of the Year, catching 10 TDs along with 1,200 yards receiving, cementing himself as WR1 in Denver.

FLOOR: Jeudy takes a back seat to Sutton, but still manages 6 TDs and 800 yards.

PREDICTION: Jerry Jeudy is good. I think he has the lowest floor of the rookie WRs, and see him catching 7 TDs along with 900 yards receiving.

WR3: K.J. Hamler

CEILING: Hamler exploits mismatches provided by the two studs ahead of him, and scores 8 TDs along with 750 yards.

FLOOR: Hamler is used more as a gadget, scoring 2 TDs with 300 yards.

PREDICTION: Hamler will benefit from the attention the others receive, and score 5 TDs and have 600 yards receiving.

WR4: Tim Patrick

CEILING: Patrick scores 4 TDs and adds 400 yards receiving.

FLOOR: Patrick falls down the depth chart and sees minimal targets.

PREDICTION: If one of the other guys goes down, Patrick could see some balls. but I predict minimal impact.

WR5: DaeSean Hamilton

CEILING: Wins the battle for WR4 and one of the top three guys goes down. He scores 4 TDs with 400 yards receiving.

FLOOR: Has a snap count of 18, with 2 catches for 17 yards.

PREDICTION: There is too much talent in Denver’s WR corps.

WR6: Diontae Spencer, WR7: Fred Brown, WR8: Juwann Winfree, WR9: Tyrie Cleveland, WR10: Trinity Benson, WR11: Zimari Manning

CEILING: Dating a Bronco cheerleader.

FLOOR: Dating a Bronco cheerleader’s grandmother.

PREDICTION: Do yourself a favor. If you think any of these guys get touches on a team that includes this many talented weapons, write an article explaining why. You will be doing unique work.

Ceilings and Floors: Tight End

Ceilings and Floors
TE1: Noah Fant

CEILING: The hype train is chugging through Fantville, and he lives up to it. 10 TDs, 1,000 yards, and the next big thing at TE.

FLOOR: Fant struggles to improve in an offense loaded with other weapons, and produces a modest 4 TD, 500-yard season.

PREDICTION: Fant should get his touches, Denver loves him. I see a 7 TD, 800 yard season.

TE2: Nick Vannett

CEILING: Vannett becomes a red zone threat, scoring 6 TDs and recording 500 receiving yards.

FLOOR: Vannett is passed in the depth chart, and sees minimal time on special teams.

PREDICTION: I don’t think his time as TE2 lasts long.

TE3: Jeff Heuerman

CEILING: Heuerman wins TE2, and scores 5 TDs, adding 700 yards receiving.

FLOOR: Heuerman falls down the depth chart, his fate mirrors Vannett’s.

PREDICTION: I dislike him less than Vannett, but there is nothing special here as far as fantasy goes.

TE4: Albert Okwuegbunam

CEILING: Ok, this should excite Bronco fans. Speed on speed action. Having Fant opposite him, with Sutton, Jeudy, and Hamler, would be a nightmare scenario defenses struggle to wake up from. 7 TDs, 700 yards.

FLOOR: Okquegbunam(say that 5 times fast) struggles to see the field in a crowded TE position, and only scores 1 TD to go along with 250 yards receiving.

PREDICTION: The idea of Okwuegbunam’s speed alongside the other burners both terrifies reporters who have to spell his name and defenses who have to figure out which guy the linebacker is going to cover. I suspect Denver figures this out, and Okwuegbunam records 4 TDs and 300 yards.

TE5: Troy Fumagalli, TE6: Jake Butt, TE7: Austin Fort

CEILING: Denver runs a lot of 4 TE sets, and these guys take turns spelling the others.

FLOOR: Denver cuts all three because of the quality ahead of them.

PREDICTION: This is a deep TE room, if these guys can contribute on special teams, some of them might make the roster.
