Ceilings and Floors: Detroit Lions

This is the 22nd of 32 Ceilings and Floors, covering each NFL team’s QBs, RBs, WRs, and TEs. We continue with the NFC North and the Detroit Lions. In case you missed it, here is the breakdown for the Chicago Bears. (Depth Charts courtesy of footballguys.com)

Ceilings and Floors: Quarterback

QB1: Matthew Stafford

CEILING: Stafford rediscovers his form, throwing for 37 TDs along with 4,700 yards.

FLOOR: Stafford has begun the decline, struggles to return from injury, and throws 21 TDs along with 3,300 yards.

PREDICTION: Stafford should bounce back, and there is no real threat to his job on the roster, so he is going the full 16 if healthy. 31 TDs, 4,300 yards, and a big return for Stafford.

QB2: Chase Daniel

CEILING: If Daniel somehow manages to start 16 games, I still only see 17 TDs and 2,900 yards.

FLOOR: He continues being a backup, like he has been the rest of his career, and records zero stats.

PREDICTION: Chase Daniel will not play, because he is not very good.

QB3: David Blough

CEILING: If you think there is a ceiling, you didn’t watch him play.

FLOOR: If you watched him play, you know there is no floor low enough.

PREDICTION: We won’t have to watch him play again.

Ceilings and Floors: Running Back

Ceilings and Floors
RB1: Kerryon Johnson

CEILING: Johnson finally breaks out as part of a two-back tandem, scoring 9 total TDs along with 1,100 total yards.

FLOOR: Johnson is straight-up run out of town by Swift, and records 2 TDs along with 400 yards on his way out.

PREDICTION: There is a way to properly use both these guys, and I think Detroit gets it close. 6 total TDs, 800 yards.

RB2: D’Andre Swift

CEILING: He wins the starting role outright, and posts a massive rookie season with 11 total TDs and 1,300 yards.

FLOOR: Swift struggles to adjust, Johnson takes the majority of touches, and Swift finishes with 4 total TDs along with 600 total yards.

PREDICTION: Swift emerges as the lead back in this committee, and scores 8 total TDs along with 1,000 total yards.

RB3: Bo Scarbrough

CEILING: Scarbrough fills in for an injury above him, and scores 4 TDs along with 400 total yards.

FLOOR: Scarbrough does not get to touch the ball, or step on the field for an offensive snap.

PREDICTION: I doubt he makes much of an impact, as the two guys ahead of him are both better.

RB4: Jason Huntley, RB5: Ty Johnson

CEILING: RB3. 1 TD, 200 yards.

FLOOR: Special teams is calling.

PREDICTION: Neither get any touches, neither get drafted in fantasy, and neither of them admit to playing for the Lions at parties.

Ceilings and Floors: Wide Receiver

Ceilings and Floors
WR1: Kenny Golladay

CEILING: 14 TDs, 1,400 yards, and a strong case for best fantasy WR in the NFL. He had 11 with garbage at QB last year.

FLOOR: 6 TDs, 900 yards, because the Lions somehow stop using him.

PREDICTION: Golladay is a beast. I like 10 TDs and 1,200 yards. He is elite.

WR2: Marvin Jones

CEILING: 10 TDs and 1,100 yards from the perennially underrated WR.

FLOOR: 5 TDs, 500 yards, and the beginning of his career fade.

PREDICTION: Jones has consistently been average or better throughout his career. I see 7 TDs and 800 yards.

WR3: Danny Amendola

CEILING: 4 TDs and 500 yards from the soon-to-be 35 year old. If he manages to play 16 games

FLOOR: Doesn’t see the field much due to injury or dropping down the depth chart. Zero TDs 150 yards.

PREDICTION: Amendola is done, and has been done for a bit. 1 TD, 250 yards.

WR4: Geronimo Allison

CEILING: 4 TDs, 400 yards, WR3 status.

FLOOR: Zero TDs, 120 yards, and irrelevance.

PREDICTION: Not expecting much from Allison. He has yet to excite me since entering the league.

WR5: Quintez Cephus

CEILING: Cephus winds up as WR3, scoring 6 TDs along with 750 yards.

FLOOR: Cephus doesn’t see the field much, catching 1 TD along with 200 yards.

PREDICTION: Cephus will move up from WR5, and I like 2 TDs and 500 yards.

WR6: Marvin Hall, WR7: Geremy Davis, WR8: Chris Lacy, WR9: Travis Fulgham

CEILING: Special teams extraordinaires, 7 total catches.

FLOOR: They film a documentary called Lion King, an inside look on Matt Patricia and his vendetta against clean-shaven players, but are sued for copyright infringement, ending their film careers before they begin.

PREDICTION: They all grow epic beards.

Ceilings and Floors: Tight End

Ceilings and Floors
TE1: T.J. Hockenson

CEILING: 9 TDs, 1,000 yards, and the breakout we all know is coming.

FLOOR: 3 TDs, 500 yards, and flashes of what is to come.

PREDICTION: I am all over Hockenson in dynasty, and think he starts his breakout this year. 7 TDs, 700 yards.

TE2: Jesse James

CEILING: 4 TDs, 500 yards.

FLOOR: Moves down the depth chart, and is involved in multiple gunfights in the street, robbing banks and stealing horses while starting a criminal enterprise.

PREDICTION: I might have the wrong Jesse James. I expect 1TD, 250 yards, zero banks robbed.

TE3: Isaac Nauta

CEILING: 2 TDs, 300 yards.

FLOOR: 2 catches, 13 yards. 2019 all over again.

PREDICTION: There is nothing to see here folks. He is Nauta fantasy asset.

TE4: Hunter Bryant

CEILING: TE2, 5 TDs, 500 yards.

FLOOR: Stays at TE4, and starts his own hunting show. I don’t know why this makes so much sense, it just came to me.

PREDICTION: I think he is TE2 by next year, but will have growing pains. 2 TDs, 300 yards.
