Ceilings and Floors: Indianapolis Colts

This is the 10th of 32 Ceilings and Floors, covering each NFL team’s QBs, RBs, WRs, and TEs. We continue with the AFC South, and the Indianapolis Colts. In case you missed it, here is the breakdown for the Houston Texans. (Depth Charts courtesy of footballguys.com)

Ceilings and Floors: Quarterback

QB1: Philip Rivers

CEILING: Rivers flourishes behind a fantastic offensive line, and leads Indy to the Super Bowl with 4,700 yards passing and 38 TDs.

FLOOR: Rivers career decline has already begun, and he throws for 22 TDs and 3,700 yards.

PREDICTION: Rivers with time could be a scary thing in 2020, and I believe he isn’t washed up yet. 30 TDs and 4,100 yards make 2020 a good year for Rivers.

QB2: Jacoby Brissett

CEILING: Rivers makes his ceiling negligible. The guy doesn’t miss games. Brissett is an okay handcuff for Rivers. If Rivers does go down in preseason, his ceiling is similar to the 18 TDs and nearly 3,000 yards passing of 2019.

FLOOR: Eason gets the nod over him.

PREDICTION: He backs up Rivers all year long before Eason passes him in 2021.

QB3: Jacob Eason

CEILING: His ceiling doesn’t involve playing, because I just can’t see it happening this year. Learning under Rivers is a blessing for him, and his situation makes me like him more post-draft than I did pre-draft.

FLOOR: He turns out to be a bust, and never makes it in the NFL.

PREDICTION: Eason has the right scenario to grow and mature. He is worth a look in dynasty formats only.

QB4: Chad Kelly

CEILING: I guess his ceiling is making the team.

FLOOR: He is looking for work soon.

PREDICTION: I think he might be able to give an NFL team a decent QB3, nothing more.

Ceilings and Floors: Running Back

Ceilings and Floors
RB1: Marlon Mack

CEILING: Mack finally plays 16 games, and rewards fantasy owners with 14 total TDs and 1,600 total yards while keeping Jonathon Taylor relegated to RB2. Rivers loves throwing to RBs.

FLOOR: Taylor straight up passes him in the depth chart, and Mack turns in a disappointing 7 TD, 900 total yard effort.

PREDICTION: I think this could be a potent one-two punch out of the backfield. I see Mack having 10 TDs and 1,100 yards of offense sharing the load with Taylor.

RB2: Jonathon Taylor

CEILING: Taylor thrusts himself into Rookie of the Year talk, surpassing Mack and having 15 total TDs to go along with 1,700 total yards.

FLOOR: Taylor never emerges as the guy the Colts thought he was, delivering 6 TDs and 800 total yards as Mack shines.

PREDICTION: In case you didn’t know, I think this could be a potent one-two punch. I like Taylor for 8 TDs and 1,000 total yards.

RB3: Nyheim Hines

CEILING: Hines gets to run due to an injury ahead of him, and his ability as a pass-catcher translates with Rivers to the tune of 6 TDs and 800 total yards.

FLOOR: Hines watches the two guys ahead of him run behind that big beautiful offensive line and barely sees the field.

PREDICTION: Hines becomes more of a gadget player with the acquisition of Taylor. He has 2 TDs and 300 total yards.

RB4: Jordan Wilkins

CEILING: Like a giant sliding down a beanstalk, Taylor squishes Wilkins’ ceiling into the ground. He is only useful if injuries force the Colts hand.

FLOOR: He was in the house when a giant crushed the ceiling, and is no longer with the Colts.

PREDICTION: He doesn’t play more than 10 snaps without injury assistance.

Ceilings and Floors: Wide Receiver

Ceilings and Floors
WR1: T.Y. Hilton

CEILING: Hilton is rejuvenated by Rivers and scores 8 TDs along with 1,400 receiving yards.

FLOOR: Hilton is beginning his decline, and records only 5 TDs and 850 yards.

PREDICTION: Hilton should benefit from Rivers throwing the ball. Even though he has never been a TD guy, he has tons of catches and yards. 6 TDs and 1,100 yards.

WR2: Zach Pascal

CEILING: Pascal continues improving in year three, hauling in 9 TDs and 1,000 yards receiving.

FLOOR: Pascal capped out in 2019, and we see a 5 TD, 600 yard season similar to last year.

PREDICTION: It is hard to gauge Pascal, who suffered through poor QB play in 2019. I like him for 6 TDs and 700 yards.

WR3: Parris Campbell

CEILING: Campbell makes big strides in year two, staying healthy and moving up the depth chart with an 8 TD, 1,100-yard year.

FLOOR: Campbell looks to be a draft bust, struggling to stay on the field and looking average when he plays. 3 TDs, 450 yards.

PREDICTION: Hard to know what Campbell does in his second year with a new and improved QB. I’ll take 5 TDs and 600 yards.

WR4: Michael Pittman Jr.

CEILING: Pittman emerges as the WR of the future in Indianapolis, catching 11 TDs to go with his 1,100 yards and Rookie of the Year attention.

FLOOR: Pittman struggles to adjust, loses ground in the depth chart battle, and disappoints with 4 TDs and 350 yards.

PREDICTION: I like Pittman and I like the situation. I can easily see an 8 TD, 700 yard year for the rookie.

WR5: Dezmon Patmon, WR6: Daurice Fountain, WR7: Marcus Johnson,
WR8: Ashton Dulin

CEILING: The talent above them limits each of these guys in a big way, and injuries are needed to see the field much.

FLOOR: 0 catches, 0 yards, 0 TDs.

PREDICTION: Don’t draft these guys, unless you wanna be that guy. Someone is always that guy.

Ceilings and Floors: Tight End

Ceilings and Floors
TE1: Jack Doyle

CEILING: Doyle erupts as TE1 for Rivers, scoring 9 TDs to go along with 900 yards receiving.

FLOOR: Doyle gives consistent production, scoring 4 TDs and having 500 yards receiving.

PREDICTION: You have to like the scenario for Doyle to be valuable in redraft leagues. 7 TDs, 750 yards receiving in this offense.

TE2: Trey Burton

CEILING: Burton rebounds from a dreadful 2019 season in Chicago, taking advantage of the weapons around him to score 7 TDs along with 700 yards receiving.

FLOOR: Burton isn’t healthy, and struggles to produce. His floor is very low for a TE2.

PREDICTION: I can see Burton being a serviceable backup TE in Indianapolis, scoring 4 TDs to go with 450 yards receiving.

TE3: Mo Alie-Cox, TE4: Ross Travis

CEILING: Neither of these guys are known for their receiving skills. Even if Burton struggles, they probably don’t produce much.

FLOOR: They only ever block.

PREDICTION: Steer clear, Indianapolis is going to have to draft a TE in 2021.
