Ceilings and Floors: Kansas City Chiefs

This is the 14th of 32 Ceilings and Floors, covering each NFL team’s QBs, RBs, WRs, and TEs. We continue with the AFC West, and the Kansas City Chiefs. In case you missed it, here is the breakdown for the Denver Broncos. (Depth Charts courtesy of footballguys.com)

Ceilings and Floors: Quarterback

QB1: Patrick Mahomes

CEILING: Is there one? I mean honestly? 60 TDs, 6,000 yards? He is the only QB with a chance at those kind of mind-bending numbers. Projecting the ceiling here is kind of ridiculous, because we are in uncharted waters.

FLOOR: 26 pass TDs, 4,000 yards, along with 2 rush TDs and 200 rush yards. That was Mahomes last year in 14 games, in what I would honestly consider a down year. His floor is as safe as safe gets.

PREDICTION: This is Peyton Manning-Esque fantasy production here. He is so young, to already have a 5,000 yard 50 TD season is honestly difficult to comprehend. If you made me predict this season? 46 TDs, 5,300 yards.

QB2: Chad Henne

CEILING: Mahomes goes down pre-season, and Andy Reid for some reason decides to go with Henne in 2020. Watch the Henne die-hards emerge as he throws for 4,000 yards and 30 TDs. He then signs with the Bears. Hahahaha.

FLOOR: Henne should never, ever, step foot on the field. You don’t hand the keys to a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport to a teen trying to pass their driver’s exam.

PREDICTION: Henne in 2020 may rhyme, but it sounds anything other than good to Chiefs fans. He better not play.

QB3: Jordan Ta’amu

CEILING: The XFL alum beats out Henne, he shows up in a new Bugatti, and manages not to wreck, replicating Henne’s 4,000 yards and 30 TDs.

FLOOR: He premiers in the Whatever-FL that comes along next. He is outclassed.

PREDICTION: I predict I previewed no film on him, and therefore predict my predictions could put me in a predicament, therefore predicated on my previous postulating, I propose postponing prognostication until play for proposed play proves possible, pending poor performance from previous people. Pow!

Ceilings and Floors: Running Back

Ceilings and Floors
RB1: Damien Williams

CEILING: WIlliams manages to hold on to the RB1 spot, scoring 9 TDs along with 1,100 yards.

FLOOR: WIlliams plays second-fiddle to Edwards-Helaire, scoring 3 TDs along with 500 yards

PREDICTION: Williams remains relevant with 6 total TDs and 700 yards.

RB2: Clyde Edwards-Helaire

CEILING: If you listen to any fantasy analyst, Edwards-Helaire is going to flourish in Kansas City. 15 total TDs, 1600 yards.

FLOOR: Before Joe Burrow‘s Heisman season, Edwards-Helaire did not impress. Mahomes is better than Burrow, but everyone else around and against him is better, too. He runs a 4.6-second 40-yd dash at 5’7″. And he is a product of his environment. He still scores 5 TDs and has 800 yards, because he upgraded his environment.

PREDICTION: “CEH,” as he is known, does not perform up to the standards expected. He is still a solid acquisition due to his scenario, but I expect a let-down. 7 total TDs, 1,000 yards. The weapons are everywhere. In this offense, I could be very wrong.

RB3: Darrel Williams

CEILING: The second Williams earns a goal-line role, scoring 6 TDs along with 250 yards rushing. What a freaking vulture.

FLOOR: Williams gets passed up by one or both of the guys below him.

PREDICTION: WIlliams most likely ends up below at least one of the two guys behind him.

RB4: Darwin Thompson, RB5: DeAndre Washington

CEILING: If injuries riddle the backfield in Kansas City, either of these guys could emerge as a viable starter in fantasy. If they somehow wind up as a featured back, you could be looking at 7 TDs and 900 yards over a 16 game season. There is real potential in these two if they manage to pry enough touches away from the guys ahead of them.

FLOOR: Backing someone else up on another team.

PREDICTION: Adding Edwards-Helaire destroyed Thompson’s potential. Washington has only been a serviceable backup to this point. Still, both of these guys can play. I am interested to see if another team looks to acquire either of them for RB depth if they don’t make the roster.

Ceilings and Floors: Wide Receiver

Ceilings and Floors
WR1: Tyreek Hill

CEILING: This ceiling goes up, and up, and up. 18 total TDs. 2,000 total yards. The guy is essentially unguardable, and with Mahomes launching rockets to him, we really don’t have a blueprint to look at. This type of combination has not existed before.

FLOOR: He is suspended forever from the NFL. Stop allegedly beating up women and children. Fantasy owners and KC fans alike are on edge, hoping Tyreek can prove he has matured and that part of his life is behind him.

PREDICTION: Tyreek is a weapon unlike any other. He is going to feast. 14 TDs, 1,700 yards. Explain how you stop him?

WR2: Sammy Watkins

CEILING: Watkins scores 6 TDs and adds 800 yards receiving.

FLOOR: Watkins winds up as WR4 and then retires.

PREDICTION: With Kansas City career averages of 596 yards and 3 TDs, I expect similar production in 2020. However, this will be his last year as Kansas City’s WR2.

WR3: Mecole Hardman

CEILING: Emerges as WR2, combines with Tyreek to make the fastest WR duo in NFL history, and scores 10 TDs along with 1,200 yards receiving.

FLOOR: The 538 yards and 6 TDs he had as a rookie is a safe floor for Hardman.

PREDICTION: Hardman emerges as the next best weapon in Kansas City’s talented WR corps. 8 TDs, 900 yards.

WR4: Demarcus Robinson

CEILING: Robinson moves to WR3, creating a speedy trio the league is unprepared to handle. 6 TDs, 600 yards.

FLOOR: Robinson sees little in terms of touches and only produces 2 TDs along with 300 yards.

PREDICTION: This kid is talented, and young, and getting better. If the opportunities arise, he can produce. 4 TDs, 500 yards.

WR5: Byron Pringle, WR6: Felton Davis, WR7: Kalija Lipscomb

CEILING: Crazily, each of these guys is capable of having 6 TDs and 500 yards in this offense.

FLOOR: Sadly, none of them see the field.

PREDICTION: Not enough reps to go around, and they are only valuable in KC if injuries decimate the WRs. They become viable only if multiple WRs are injured for Kansas City.

Ceilings and Floors: Tight End

Ceilings and Floors
TE1: Travis Kelce

CEILING: The best tight end in football. 1,400 yards, 12 TDs, and a new reality show.

FLOOR: He is going to have 900 yards minimum if healthy. But he only scores 5 times, because that is what he did in 2019.

PREDICTION: Kelce is a lock to finish near the top of the TE rankings if healthy. Give me 9 TDs and 1,100 yards.

TE2: Ricky Seals-Jones

CEILING: The former college WR is unleashed in this beautiful offense, scoring 8 times to go along with 700 yards receiving.

FLOOR: Seals-Jones can’t get any attention with all the mouths to feed, and winds up with 1 TD along with 250 yards receiving.

PREDICTION: Seals-Jones will be quality TE depth, scoring 4 times to go along with 500 yards.

TE3: Deon Yelder

CEILING: He catches 2 TDs and 250 yards by accident.

FLOOR: He catches zero balls as he blocks for the superstars around him.

PREDICTION: He is gonna look good blocking for these guys.

  1. Brady may have been the goat but, Mahomes is the best right now. Long live the new King.
