Fantasy Football

Deep Sleepers

Every year there are undrafted or very late-round, deep sleepers in fantasy football that completely change your odds at winning. Usually, it comes down to luck of the draw. However, luck can be earned.

Javian HawkinsFalcons

My first deep sleeper is an undrafted free agent picked up by the Atlanta Falcons. He is a third or fourth-string running back who has an interesting skill set. If Todd Gurley does not resign and Mike Davis does not return to what he was last year there is plenty of room for upside in this backfield. He is a small back but plays hard. His nickname is “Playstation” and that alone wets my whistle.  According to the Atlanta Falcons website, Hawkins set the single-season rushing record at Louisville as a freshman.

Amari Rodgers-Packers

Deep sleeper number two is wide receiver Amari Rodgers out of Green Bay, Wisconsin. There may be a shit ton of question marks surrounding the Packers right now but they still have to compete come September. Amari Rodgers was a third-round draft pick and the weapon that they decided was best fit for Aaron Rodgers. If Aaron Rodgers remains a Packer I believe there is plenty of upside for Amari Rogers. He had been playing with Trevor Lawrence in his college days so I see no trouble transitioning to the NFL. If Aaron Rodgers does not play for Green Bay that means that Davante Adams may also choose to sit out. If that happens Amari Rodgers may be competing for a number one target share.

Jared Cook-Chargers

For my next deep sleeper, I have chosen a veteran. He is on the Los Angeles Chargers and is replacing Hunter Henry. If you are iffy on your tight end you might want to pick up Jared Cook as an insurance option. From what we saw last year from Herbert, there is plenty of potential for Cook to be a tight end you can somewhat rely on. Henry had 613-yards and 4 touchdowns in 14 games last season.

Jerick McKinnon-Chiefs

My next deep sleeper is currently on the Kansas City Chiefs believe it or not. His career has been a rocky road so far. Jerick McKinnon formerly of the 49ers has suffered two seasons filled with injuries. Yet he still put up numbers last year. I don’t wish injuries upon anyone, however, if Clyde Edwards-Helaire were to go down I think McKinnon would be in a position to return to his old self. If Clyde stays healthy McKinnon could still be competing for touches around the goal line.

Houston Texans-Backfield

My last set of deep sleepers come from the same team. It is the Texans backfield. Their backfield is now made up of David Johnson, Mark Ingram, Phillip Lindsay, and Rex Burkhead. In most leagues, two or three of these guys will be on the waivers. In my eyes, any one of these players could emerge as a great fantasy option depending on how the cookie crumbles.

  1. If Aaron Rodgers does not play for Green Bay that means that Davante Adams may also choose to sit out. Where is this information coming from? There have been several comments on this on Reddit. You might want to log on there and tell them if this coming from a source or it is simply your opinion.
