Week 2 has just finished, and we will look back at the best and worst DEF/ST Fantasy Football performances of the week. Take note that we are using Sleeper’s PPR scoring system for this analysis.
Golden DAWG: Tampa Bay Buccaneers 29 FP
3 Forced Fumbles, 2 Fumble Recoveries, 1 Defense TD, 3 Interceptions, 6 Sacks, 7-13 Points Allowed (Projected: 8.49 FP)
The Tampa Bay defense did everything it could to give themselves a win. In a tie game entering the 4th quarter, the Buccaneers’ defense went to a higher level. They had three interceptions, including a Pick-6 and a fumble which they recovered. This gave Tom Brady an excellent field position to start the drives and put the game out of reach. The TB defense is currently the highest-ranked DEF/ST in fantasy football.
Silver DAWG: Jacksonville Jaguars 22 FP
1 Forced Fumble, 3 Interceptions, 5 Sacks, 0 Points Allowed (Projected: 6.53 FP)
The Jaguars played an excellent game on both sides of the ball. But it was their defense that made this game a massive upset. Matt Ryan looked uncomfortable throughout the game. Jonathan Taylor was a non-factor. This was all due to the pressure that the Jaguars put up, which got five sacks and three interceptions. The Jaguars now lead the AFC South.
Bronze DAWG: Atlanta Falcons 17 FP
1 Blocked Kick, 1 Forced Fumble, 1 Fumble Recovery, 2 Interceptions, 1 Special Teams TD, 1 Sack, 1 Safety, 28-34 Points Allowed (Projected: 4.46 FP)
The Falcons lost 31-27 to the Rams, but you can credit the Falcons’ defense for keeping the game competitive. Atlanta blocked a punt and returned it for a TD, forced a fumble, and recovered it. So it’s still possible for your defense to score that many fantasy points even if they allow 28-34 pts.
Golden FRAUD: Miami Dolphins -4 FP
35+ Points Allowed (Projected: 6.73 FP)
The most entertaining game of the week was controlled by the offenses of the Baltimore Ravens and the Miami Dolphins. Miami didn’t force a takeaway which led to Lamar Jackson having an amazing game with 318 passing yards, three passing TDs, 119 rushing yards, and a rushing TD. Miami will face an even better offense next week when they go against the Buffalo Bills.
Silver FRAUD: Tennessee Titans -3 FP
1 Sack, 35+ Points Allowed (Projected: 6.24 FP)
The Tennessee Titans had no answer to solving the Buffalo Bills. Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs looked unstoppable when they connected for 148 yards and three TDs. The top seed in the AFC last year has many more questions after their performance in Week 2.
Bronze FRAUD: Indianapolis Colts 0 FP
21-27 Points Allowed (Projected: 9.13 FP)
The Indianapolis Colts defense was non-existent as Trevor Lawrence looked like his best in his young career. The Colts weren’t able to pressure Lawrence much, as he was connecting on almost all his throws. The defense of the Colts must step up in the next few weeks as Matt Ryan isn’t fully settled in yet as the QB.
