People know that the big thing in Superflex leagues is the bump in the value of quarterbacks. You can never have enough since only a max of 32 starting quarterbacks are available. However, because of the positional scarcity of these quarterbacks, especially in leagues with 12 or more teams, they can be very expensive to get. It can be difficult to find dirt cheap QBs for Superflex leagues. However, it can be done.
My personal view on quarterbacks is to only acquire quarterbacks who are good in the NFL but who aren’t too old so they have long-term job security. I used to also say I wanted these quarterbacks to be good for fantasy, but because they are that good in the NFL, they are generally good for fantasy too. These are guys that range from Patrick Mahomes to Dak Prescott. I avoid players who don’t have job security. Obviously, names like Jimmy Garoppolo fall here, but I also include fantasy studs like Justin Fields here.
So if I can’t get one of the top QBs, who do I aim for? Here are a few names:
Jacoby Brissett
People are assuming Sam Howell is the starting QB in Washington. However, Jacoby Brissett has proven that he is a decent QB who can produce for fantasy. He was the QB17, averaging 15.8 fantasy points per game in the 11 games he started last season. Ron Rivera even said to not sleep on him. According to Keep Trade Cut, he is being valued as less than a late 3rd but he could be a solid QB2 with QB1 upside with those weapons and his legs if he gets to play behind centre. Of the 3 names I will mention, I think Jacoby has the highest chance of starting.
Taylor Heinicke
Desmond Ridder definitely does not have that job locked up. Taylor Heinicke proved to be a decent starter in Washington and he’ll still have pretty good weapons to work with in Atlanta if given the chance. In the 9 games he started last season, he was QB18, averaging 13.6 fantasy points per game. He’s being valued at less than an early 4th on Keep Trade Cut but could be a QB2 if given the chance, despite that run-first offence.
Mike White
There’s no QB competition in Miami. However, Tua Tagovailoa could be one concussion away from retiring. Mike White proved he can be a decent fantasy QB in New York and he’d have one of the best WR duos in the league if he gets to start. In the first 3-game stretch he started, he was the QB10 over that period, averaging 18.3 fantasy points per game. However, he got to start in week 17 too and only put up 5.6 fantasy points, bringing his average down to 15.1. He is being valued at less than a late 4th on Keep Trade Cut but has the ability to be a very good QB2 with QB1 upside if Tua is out, and Tua has missed at least 4 games a season. Mike is the cheapest of the 3 with the most upside as well.
Wrap Up
I bought Tom Brady in every league for about a 4th when he retired the first time. I bought Geno Smith when people thought Drew Lock would be the starter. Those two ended up being dirt cheap QBs for Superflex. Jacoby Brissett, Taylor Heinicke, and Mike White are three I’d try to get for 4ths and maybe 3rds if I can in 12+ team Superflex leagues.
