Divisional Winners to Bet on this NHL Season

The 2020-21 NHL Season is now less than a day away. With all the excitement that comes with the upcoming season, there are also some reasons to be intrigued by the differences. This season, with Canada not allowing teams to cross borders, the NHL has realigned their divisions. With the realignment, there is unpredictability on who will win each division. With this in mind, it would be advisory to bet on Divisional Winners that have good odds as the season approaches. Here are some bets based on the odds that each team provides. The odds are the payout if these teams win the division (+500 would give you $600 if the bet wins).

East Division: Flyers (+500)

The East Division looks to be the toughest and deepest in the NHL. While the Bruins are regarded as the favorites in the division, the Flyers have great odds for a team that looked promising last season. The Flyers are led by one of the best young goalies in the NHL in Carter Hart, and Brian Elliott is a viable backup that can give the Flyers great games when Hart needs a night off. The Flyers also possess a deep scoring lineup and really only have questions in the backend of their defense. Considering the odds, the Flyers can be divisional winners and give fans a great payout in the process.

North Division: Flames (+700)

The Calgary Flames are going to play in a unique Canada Division, one that is leaning toward Toronto winning it. The Flames are perceived as a team with long odds to win the division but have the talent and ability to turn many heads. Led by scorers like Matthew Tkachuk and Johnny Gaudreau and defensive stars like Mark Giordano and Rasmus Anderson. The reason to doubt the Flames is their goaltending, a problem the franchise has been dealing with for years. This is where Jacob Markstrom comes in. The Flames signed Markstrom this offseason and he is expected to carry the goaltending unit. The Flames might be divisional winners but are giving us great odds for an unpredictable division.

Central Division: Stars (+490)

The Dallas Stars will play in the same division as the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning defeated the Stars just a few months ago in the Stanley Cup Final and are now favored to win the division over them. Anyone that watched the Stanley Cup Playoffs knows the Stars can win the division with a great roster. Anton Khudobin burst onto the scene last year at goalie in the playoffs. The Stars also possess one of the best and more complete rosters in the division. The Stars are a great bet, considering how they played last season and the talent that remains from last year.

West Division: Blues (+550)

It’s easy to forget that the Blues won the Stanley Cup in 2019. It’s also easy to forget that the Blues have been one of the best teams since Craig Berube took over as the head coach. The West is a top-heavy division, with the Avalanche and Golden Knights both as heavy favorites. However, the Blues can surprise many by winning the division with great odds as well. The Blues return Jordan Binnington and a strong defense. If Torey Krug is able to fit in with the offense, the Blues should be one of the best teams in the NHL. The Blues give us good odds to win the West and it is advisory to bet on them to be divisional winners.
