Fantasy Baseball Outfielders: Herman’s Top 10

Hi Everyone. With all sports being postponed due to COVID-19, you still have more time to draft your fantasy baseball team! Throughout this ranking series, I will give my top 10 C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, OF, SP, and RP. Today’s countdown is all about the men who roam the outfield grass. Outfielders have to be fast enough to track down flyballs, have good arms, and rake balls over the fence. The main statistics I will be using for a hitter are AVG, R, HR, RBI, and SB because these are the five categories for hitters in fantasy baseball. Without further ado, here are my top 10 fantasy baseball outfielders.

10. Starling Marte, Arizona Diamondbacks

Top 10 Rankings: Outfielders

Kicking off my top 10 fantasy baseball outfielders is Arizona’s Starling Marte. The long time Pittsburgh Pirate was shipped down to the desert this offseason. Marte possesses tremendous speed along with solid power. In 2019, Marte hit for an average of .295, 23 HRs, 82 RBIs, 97 Rs, and stole 25 bags. Marte’s biggest issue is his injury history. Last season, Marte played in 132 games, as he missed time with an abdominal injury. Marte has shown great talent when on the field, however his injury history should make any fantasy owner cautious.

9. Bryce Harper, Philadelphia Phillies

Coming in as my number nine fantasy baseball outfielder is Bryce Harper. After parting ways with the Nationals in 2018, Harper landed in Philly. In Harper’s first year with the Phillies, he hit .260, with 35 HRs, 114 RBIs, 98 Rs, and 15 SBs. All of this was done in 157 games. Harper didn’t disappoint the Philly faithful during the 2019 season. Staying healthy is usually what a lot of superstars struggle with. The talent is there with all of these players but staying on the field is a big issue. Harper was able to put up dominant numbers and stay healthy last season, giving him solid fantasy value.

8. Aaron Judge, New York Yankees

Ranking at number eight on my top 10 outfielders is New York’s Aaron Judge. The 6’7″ RF doesn’t seem to miss many mistakes from opposing pitchers. However, injury is a huge concern for Judge. Despite missing a huge chunk of games last season, Judge hit for an average of .272, 27 bombs, 55 RBIs, and 75 Rs. These numbers were achieved in 102 games. When on the field, Judge is one of the scariest hitters in the league. However, in the past two seasons, Judge has missed 110 games combined. Judge is one of the riskier players on this list, but if he can stay healthy this season, you will want this guy on your fantasy team.

7. J.D. Martinez, Boston Red Sox

My number seven fantasy baseball outfielder is J.D. Martinez. The nine-year pro continues to put up monster years. In 2019, J.D. hit for an average of .304, 36 homers, drove in 105 runs, and crossed the plate 98 times. Absolute fantasy dominance from Martinez in 2019, and I see 2020 being no different. J.D. is a pro hitter, who seems to hit .300+ with at least 30 HRs, and 100 RBI’s every season. J.D. is the definition of production. Martinez was also able to stay healthy last season, as he played in 146 games. J.D. Martinez has been a solid fantasy outfielder for quite some time now, and I see him continuing his fantasy success this season.

6. Juan Soto, Washington Nationals

Bursting onto the top 10 outfielders list this year is Wahington’s Juan Soto. The 20-year-old had quite the sophomore season in the MLB. Not only did he put up great numbers, stay healthy, and finish top 10 in MVP voting, but Soto also won a World Series with Washington. In 150 games, Soto hit .282, with 34 dingers, 110 RBIs, 110 Rs, and 12 SBs. Although only 20 years old, Soto has the swagger and talent of an experienced superstar. Soto is a dynamic, electric, and talented outfielder who has loads of fantasy value.

5. Mookie Betts, Los Angeles Dodgers

The first player to crack the top five of my fantasy baseball outfielders ranking is Mookie Betts. The fan-favorite in Boston was acquired by the Los Angeles Dodgers this offseason. After winning the MVP in 2018, Betts came back to reality in 2019. Even though Betts didn’t have as good of year last year, he still posted great numbers. In 150 games, Betts hit .295 with 29 HRs, 80 RBIs, 135 Rs, and 16 SBs. This season with the Dodgers, expect Mookie’s RBI count to go up. The Dodgers have one of the best lineups in all of baseball. Adding an all-around talent like Betts to the mix should only mean better pitches for him and his teammates.

4. Christian Yelich, Milwaukee Brewers

Fantasy baseball Outfielders

Coming in as the number four fantasy baseball outfielder is Milwaukee’s Christian Yelich. Yelich was the front runner to win MVP until he suffered a fractured kneecap, which cut his season 32 games short. Before Yelich’s injury, he hit for an average of .329, 44 HRs, 97 RBIs, 100 Rs, and 30 SBs. These numbers are a fantasy owner’s dream. Yelich does everything extremely well. If Yelich finished out the season, he would probably be higher on this list, but after any major injury, you must take some caution. Yelich had an amazing 2019 season, so don’t let his injury scare you away because he is one of the best fantasy players out there.

3. Ronald Acuna Jr., Atlanta Braves

Fantasy baseball Outfielders

Making the top three of my fantasy baseball outfielders ranking is Ronald Acuna Jr. The 21-year-old had quite the 2019 season. In 156 games, Acuna Jr. hit for an average of .280 with 41 dingers, 107 runs batted it, touched home plate 127 times, and stole 37 bags. Acuna is one of the most exciting players in baseball to watch these days. He possesses both great power and speed, which is not a quality that most major leaguers have. Hitting in a high powered Braves offense only helps Acuna, as the bats behind him can bring him home. Acuna is usually one of the first three picks in the draft, so if you have the opportunity to take him, you are getting one of the best young players in the game.

2. Cody Bellinger, Los Angeles Dodgers

Fantasy baseball Outfielders

Ranking at number two on my fantasy baseball outfielders list is the NL MVP, Cody Bellinger. Cody hit for an average of .305, with 47 bombs, 115 RBIs, 121 Rs, and 15 SBs. These dominant numbers were achieved in 156 games. You can’t ask for much more than what Bellinger did in 2019. He simply did everything. Putting up these numbers in back to back seasons is extremely hard to do, so expect a small drop. That doesn’t mean to avoid him, though. The Dodger offense and Bellinger are both too good to not produce. Bellinger has tons of fantasy value, and if you can draft him, you are getting a stud of a player.

1. Mike Trout, Los Angeles Angels

Fantasy baseball Outfielders

The number one fantasy baseball outfielder goes to the AL MVP… Mike Trout! The long time Los Angeles Angel has had quite a career. Eight-time all-star, three-time MVP, seven-time Silver Slugger, and Rookie of the Year. 2019 was no different for the best player in the MLB. In 134 games, Trout hit for an average of .291, with 45 HRs, 104 RBIs, 110 Rs, and 11 SBs. Even though Bellinger may have had better numbers than Trout last season, I put Trout at number one because of his past.

Trout has proven year in and year out that he can produce massive numbers. The addition of Anthony Rendon will only help him have another great season. Mike Trout is a generational talent, who will be the first pick in the majority of drafts. If you have the opportunity to draft Mike Trout, I would do it in a blink of an eye.

    1. Hey Mark, Springer was right on the bubble. Springer has extreme power, but so does a lot of OF’s and players in today’s game. It seems like stolen bases are becoming more and more irrelevant, making player’s who can steal more valuable in fantasy baseball. Marte also has decent power. Both Springer and Marte are both solid OF’s, I just really value Marte’s speed.
