Week five has arrived in Major League Baseball. Fantasy managers are looking to the waiver wire for the best possible streaming pitchers to fill out their rotations. With the options available, who are the best pitchers to pick up, use for the day and then cut loose? This fantasy baseball streamable pitchers for Monday will help managers accomplish just that. Remember that all moves must be completed before the first game of the day begins. That can be a challenge when games begin at 12:35 PM Eastern, as is the case today. However, if the moves can be made before first pitch, these are the recommended pickups.
Monday’s Streaming Pitchers
Austin Gomber, Colorado vs. San Francisco, 5.9% Owned
Generally speaking, recommending Rockies starters is not good practice. However, the flammable quotient goes down when they are on the road. Additionally, it goes down ever further when a team struggles against certain pitching. Such is the case in this game with Austin Gomber on the mound for Colorado. It certainly helps that he has been pitching well this season, even at home. Gomber comes into this game with a 2-2 record with a 3.58 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP.
Gomber’s ERA and whip don’t look that impressive until looking at his stats. In his first two starts, he allowed seven earned on 12 hits in nine innings. Since then, though, Gomber has only allowed four earned in his last three starts, covering 18.2 innings. He has done as well at home as on the road, making today’s start particularly attractive. His stats across those three outings: 1.93 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 20:2 K:BB. Gomber has also pitched at least six innings in each of those starts. Add in the fact that the Giants struggle mightily against southpaws and there is a lot to like here. San Francisco has just 41 hits in 193 at bats against left-handers, coming out to a .212/.305/.363/.668 stat line. Bottom line: fire up Gomber Monday.
Paul Blackburn, Oakland A’s vs Detroit Tigers, 40% Owned
When it comes to Paul Blackburn and the Oakland A’s, the exact opposite situation faces them than Gomber above. The Detroit Tigers face Blackburn on Monday and they don’t swing the bats well against right-handers at all. The Tigers are next to last in the Majors in OPS against righties, with a .566 mark. Their .204 average and .275 OBP stats are dreary as well. Detroit hitters are also striking out 25 percent of their trips to the plate.
That is all well and good, but how has Blackburn been pitching this season? Until his last start, really well. In his first four outings, however, all was looking up as his pitched five innings in each, allowing just three earned. Tampa matched those runs against him in just 4.1 innings on Tuesday. The Rays are just outside the top ten against right-handers, though, giving Blackburn a pass in that one start. For the season, he is 3-0 with a 2.22 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP. The strikeouts should come for Blackburn in this game, as he has 23 in 24.1 innings. Blackburn is not as available as some other pitchers taking the mound today. However, managers should check and react if he is. Blackburn is highly recommended on this fantasy baseball streamable pitchers Monday edition.
There are quite a few teams taking the day off today, so there aren’t a lot of other streaming options.
