Fantasy Basketball

These Basketball Waiver Pickups Are Season Savers

Now that fantasy football is over, managers can finally give fantasy basketball the attention it deserves. While the NBA hasn’t been hit as hard with COVID as the NHL has, there are players that have missed time due to the virus. Of course, there are also the usual injuries that have to be dealt with. Given that, managers need to make decisions to fill their rosters. As with fantasy football, we at Belly Up Sports are here to help! This fantasy basketball season savers arrives just in time! Let’s buckle in, shall we?

Point Guards

Coby White, Chicago Bulls, 18.7% Owned

Fantasy managers should make adding White a priority while he is playing so well

In the ten games since making his season debut, Coby White has been as consistent as anyone could ask. White has shown that he will be on the court, playing more than 30 minutes in seven of the ten games. He can score, with over double digits in points in his last seven and has scored over 20 in four games. In the last seven days, White is averaging 17 points per game. Of course, it is an unknown how long he can keep it up, but managers need to enjoy the ride as long as it lasts. Pick him up as soon as possible.

Alec Burks, New York Knicks, 18.1% Owned

Back in the starting lineup, Burks is a worthy fantasy waiver pickup

Over the past three games, Alec Burks has been on the court a lot, averaging around 36 minutes per game. Burks came off the bench the previous five games but has been returned to his starting role he has occupied most of the season. As a starter, Burks is averaging a healthy 14.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Any manager with a hole in their lineup at the point guard position can certainly use that kind of production. If available, Burks is certainly worth picking up.

Shooting Guards

Duncan Robinson, Miami Heat, 14.1% Owned

Robinson’s versatility and three-point shooting make him a must fantasy addition

Since missing three games, Duncan Robinson has returned with a vengeance. On Saturday against Phoenix, Robinson was on fire, finishing with 27 points. He was instrumental in the Heat victory over the Suns as that point total was his high on the season. Robinson hit eight threes in the game and that has become his specialty, as he is seventh in the NBA with 116 on the year. Robinson also qualifies at small forward, which only maximizes his value. No question, Robinson belongs on this fantasy basketball season saves edition.

Malik Monk, Los Angeles Lakers, 16.1% Owned

For at least three more weeks, Monk is a must add to managers needing a shooting guard

Until Sunday, Malik Monk was playing like a man possessed. In the first three games of the new year, Monk scored more than 20 points, with a high of 29 Friday against Atlanta. Since being placed in the starting lineup, Monk has shot an outstanding 55.4 percent from the field and 49 percent from deep. Memphis slowed him to just seven points Sunday, but the bet here is he will be right back at it Wednesday against Sacremento.

When Anthony Davis returns, Monk’s playing time will surely go down. That return is still at least three weeks away, however, and Monk deserves a place on a roster until then. If shooting guard help is needed, don’t hesitate to add Monk to the roster.

Small Forwards

Cameron Johnson, Phoenix Suns, 16.6% Owned

Johnson’s production makes him a priority waiver add at small forward

Anyone out there needing help at small forward, take a long, hard look at Cameron Johnson. Here is a player that is less than 17 percent owned who has scored in double digits in his last 19 games. During that period, Johnson has averaged 15.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Whether starting or coming off the bench hasn’t changed Johnson’s production as he has played over 30 minutes in his last five games. Without doubt, Johnson is a must add for managers needing small forward help.

Kyle Anderson, Memphis Grizzlies, 17.2% Owned

After missing four games, Anderson is ready to come off the waiver wire shelf

The first Memphis Grizzly player on this fantasy basketball season savers list is Kyle Anderson. It is certainly understandable that managers may be a little hesitant on adding Anderson, as he missed four games in a row before Sunday. Looking at that one game, however, it is clear that Anderson is ready for a starting spot, both in actual and fantasy basketball.

Playing against the Lakers, Anderson checked in with 29 minutes, 14 points, seven rebounds, eight assists, two steals and two blocks. If that isn’t filling a stat sheet, I don’t know what is. It was by far his best game of the season. There should be much more like that to follow, with Dillon Brooks expected to miss many weeks with an ankle injury. Don’t hesitate a single second and add Anderson to a winning fantasy roster.

Power Forwards

Kevin Love, Cleveland Cavaliers, 38.2% Owned

Love has found the fountain of youth and playing his best basketball in years

Before this weekend, Kevin Love was playing some of the best basketball in quite some time. Love comes into this week averaging 14.1 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. Love was also averaging just below 30 minutes per night. This weekend hasn’t been quite as solid for Love, as he only scored 10 points against Portland and Golden State. Prior to Friday night, though, he has been as solid as any manager could have hoped for. The wager here is that level of production will continue, and Love should be the first power forward off the waiver shelves this week.

Marcus Morris, Los Angeles Clippers, 19.8% Owned

See the source image
Morris is far too valuable to be as available as he is on the waiver wire

Over the past seven days, Marcus Morris has been a world beater, averaging 20.5 points, five rebounds and two assists a game. Morris has been a main stay on the court for the Clippers, exceeding 30 minutes in three of his last six and finishing with 29 in another.

The really good news is that Morris has topped 30 fantasy points twice and 40 three times in his last seven games. The Clippers have been shorthanded for more than a few games and that doesn’t look to change anytime soon. Clarke needs to have a much higher ownership percentage. He can help a team. Add him today.

Centers

Brandon Clarke, Memphis Grizzlies, 35.9% Owned

See the source image
Clarke stands ready to improve a fantasy team in need of center help

There is little doubt that right now is a bad time to need a center on a fantasy roster. There just aren’t many available in the waiver bargain bin at the moment. However, Brandon Clarke is listed first on the shelf and would make a good addition to a fantasy squad.

Coming into Sunday night, Clarke has averaged just around 25 minutes a night, scoring 16 or more points in three of his last six games. Best of all, Clarke has scored more than 30 fantasy points in five of his last six, breaking 40 twice. No question, Clarke leads all centers on this fantasy basketball season savers edition.

DeMarcus Cousins, Denver Nuggets, 4.6% Owned

See the source image
With little to choose from, Cousins can fill a roster hole until better options emerge

Without question, the biggest factor in determining DeMarcus Cousins‘ value the remainder of the season was his destination. Fortunately, that information is now known as Cousins signed a contract with the Denver Nuggets over the weekend. With injuries and absences giving the center position a real beating, there simply aren’t a lot of waiver choices right now (see above).

At least with Cousins, we know he will play for Denver almost immediately. In 18 games with Milwaukee, Cousins averaged 8.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists in almost 17 minutes per game. Granted, this selection will excite no one, least of all this commentator. However, if a hole at center exists on the roster, Cousins can fill it in until another viable candidate comes available.
