Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire: Week 16

Welcome to Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire: Week 16! Rosters are starting to shape up for the rest of the season. Whether it be for a playoff run or to develop younger players, the pool of waiver pickups are starting to become few and far between. The following pickups this week include players benefitting from trades and players playing more because of injuries and roster uncertainty from their teams.

As always, do not feel obligated to pick up anyone if you do not have room on your roster. I will be providing weekly waiver wire pickup suggestions that are mainly for nine-category leagues. The picks are based on players being rostered in less than 30-percent of fantasy basketball teams. Here are some waiver wire pickups for week 16.

PG Tomas Satoransky, CHI (@IND, @TOR, @ATL, @MIN)

Tomas Satoransky has arguably been the Bulls’ best playmaker. The recent trade could possibly help his stock even more. In his previous game, Satoransky had 19 points, 11 assists, 2 three-pointers made, and 2 steals while shooting 80-percent from the field. Coby White has recently been put into COVID protocol and so Satoransky will be asked to handle a lot more if White has to miss more time. The Bulls play four games this week.

SF Jaden Mcdaniels, MIN (SAC, @IND, @BOS, @CHI)

Minnesota is starting to give their young players more time considering the season is winding down. This now includes new starter, Jaden Mcdaniels. Jaden has started the previous seven games and averaged 12.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.3 three-pointers made, 1.9 assists, and 1.4 blocks while shooting 54-percent from the field. Mcdaniels should continue to get plenty of playing time with Rubio, Beasley, and Russell not playing. Minnesota plays four games this week.

PF Aleksej Pokusevski, OKC (DET, CHA, CLE, PHI)

The Thunder have been battling roster changes with a mixture of injuries and trades. Aleksej now seems to benefit from becoming a starter. As a starter, Aleksej averaged 11.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists. His numbers have not been great, but he is receiving the time now to show what he can do. He is the youngest player in the NBA and can only get better from here. The Thunder have four games this week.

SF/PF James Johnson, NO (@ATL, @BKN, PHI, @CLE)

The Pelicans have also been dealing with injuries. One player that has benefitted is the newly acquired James Johnson. In the first three games with the Pelicans, Johnson has averaged 17.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.3 three-pointers made, 2.3 blocks, and 1.5 steals while shooting 53-percent from the field. We do not know when the Pelicans will have Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson back, but in the meantime, James Johnson is an extremely viable option. The Pelicans play four games this week.
