Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire: Week 17

Welcome to Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire: Week 17! With unfortunate injury news piling up, now is the time to figure out how your rosters will shape up for the fantasy playoffs. This week 17 is mostly about the players that will be called upon to take more responsibility on their respective teams.

As always, do not feel obligated to pick up anyone if you do not have room on your roster. I will be providing weekly waiver wire pickup suggestions that are mainly for nine-category leagues. The picks are based on players being rostered in less than 30-percent of fantasy basketball teams. Here are some waiver wire pickups for week 17.

PG Cole Anthony, ORL (SA, @CHI, @TOR, HOU)

Cole Anthony has returned back from injury. Even though he is coming off the bench, the Magic seem content with playing him a lot to see what he can offer. Ever since coming back from injury, Anthony has averaged 11.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in only 24.3 minutes. I would not be surprised if they start ramping up Cole’s minutes and relegate Michael Carter-Williams back to the bench. They need to start concentrating on the young guns at some point with the season now lost. The Magic have four games this week.

PG Reggie Jackson, LAC (@IND, @DET, @PHI, MIN)

Patrick Beverley is once again out with injury. Reggie Jackson resumes his position as the starting point guard. In two games since being the starter, Jackson averaged 19.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists, and 3.0 three-pointers made while shooting 64-percent from the field. He should continue to play like he has been playing for the next few weeks. The Clippers have four games this week.

PG/SG Malachi Flynn, TOR (ATL, SA, ORL, OKC)

Malachi Flynn has been amazing in Kyle Lowry’s absence. Even with Lowy now back, I would still keep an eye out on Flynn. With Lowry back, Flynn still had 26 minutes of action off the bench to the tune of 6.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. Flynn has shown the ability to play well in the minutes given to him. Regardless if he comes off the bench, I still envision him playing enough to warrant a pickup especially if Lowry misses more time. The Raptors have four games this week.

PG Facundo Campazzo, DEN (@GS, MIA, @HOU)

With the recent news of Jamal Murray’s unfortunate injury, Denver is now relying on the tandem of Monte Morris and Facundo Campazzo to pick up the slack. Both will be competing for minutes, but my money is on Campazzo to provide better value. Campazzo is the better playmaker and provides more steals. But if you need more help in the scoring categories, Monte Morris might be your preferred target. The Nuggets have a limited amount of games this week so this would be a speculative add for the rest of the year.

SF/PF Darius Bazley, OKC (@UTAH, GS, @DET, @TOR)

Darius Bazley has come back from injury. In his first game back, Bazley had 17.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 3.0 three-pointers made while shooting 58-percent from the field. Bazley will be asked to take a lot more responsibility, especially with Shai Gilgous-Alexander still not scheduled to return anytime soon. The Thunder have four games this week.
