Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire: Week 9

I hope everyone had a lovely Valentine’s Day, but it’s now time to turn our attention to our love for fantasy basketball waiver wire: Week 9! These Week 9 pickups will consist of DEEP sleep players that all have long-term appeal as valuable end of the bench fill-ins. We have players coming back from injury, another rookie who’s shining with more playing time, and players who are just getting more minutes because of injuries.

As always, do not feel obligated to pick up anyone if you do not have room on your roster. I will be providing weekly waiver wire pickup suggestions that are mainly for nine-category leagues. The picks are based on players being rostered in less than 30-percent of fantasy basketball teams. Here are some waiver wire pickups for Week 9.

PG: Michael Carter-Williams, ORL (NY, GS, DET)

The Magic are riddled with injuries, but at least Michael Carter Williams came back. As the starting point guard, Williams averaged 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. Cole Anthony has not played with MCW back, but the Magic just have too many injuries to not look at MCW as a possible add. So whether MCW starts or comes off the bench when Anthony comes back, he should help contribute in some facet of the game. MCW does only have three games this week, so you can theoretically wait to see how he does with Anthony in the lineup. This is just a PSA to keep an eye on his production before someone else does.

PG/SG: Tomas Satoransky, CHI (@IND, @CHA, @PHI, SAC)

Coby White is still trying to work on his playmaking abilities, which is evident in the way Billy Donovan handles his rotations. Tomas Satoransky has been subbing in early in games to play with Zach Lavine. He is basically one of the Bulls only true playmakers barring any trades (Lonzo trade, anyone?). This past week off the bench, Satoransky averaged 9.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6 assists, and only 1.5 turnovers while shooting 56-percent from the field and a perfect nine for nine from the stripe. He does not do a lot to hurt you, and also provides steady value as a streaming option. The Bulls play four games this week so Satoransky can help with your assists without giving much on turnovers.

SF: Saddiq Bey, DET (SA, @DAL, @MEM, @ORL)

Saddiq Bey can be considered a super deep sleeper. If the Pistons continue to play their young guns or find a trade for Blake Griffin, Saddiq Bey becomes a great waiver wire add. In the two games with Griffin and Doumbouya out, Bey averaged 23 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 5.5 three-pointers made, and 1.5 steals while shooting 70-percent from the field. If that does not show you the potential of this kid, then I do not know what to say. Obviously, a lot of it depends on playing time, but it doesn’t hurt to add him for the week considering he has four games.

SF/PF: Marcus Morris, LAC (MIA, UTAH, UTA, BKN)

Both Paul George and Kawhi Leonard have been in and out of the Clippers lineup resulting in players like Lou Williams stepping up. Obviously, Lou Williams is probably not available, but the next best player can be Marcus Morris. The Clippers are going to need more people to step up and Marcus Morris has been one of those people. In the past two games, Morris averaged 21.5 points, 6 rebounds, 5 three-pointers made, and 1.5 blocks while shooting 54-percent from the field and a perfect seven of seven from the free-throw line. Obviously, his production might dip when Paul George returns. In the meantime, Morris should be a good streaming option considering the Clippers also have four games this week.

C: Wendell Carter Jr., CHI (@IND, @CHA, @PHI, SAC)

Wendell Carter Jr. has missed the past few weeks with an injury but is on the verge of coming back. I would not be surprised if he comes back within the next two games. During the year before the injury, Carter was averaging 12.8 points and 8 rebounds while shooting 53-percent from the field. He also has the potential to get at least 1 steal and 1 block on the defensive end. The Bulls play four games this week. If you have the roster space and can wait until he comes back, stash him and reap the rewards soon.

C Nerlens Noel, NY (ATL, @ORL, SA, MIN)

Mitchell Robinson fractured his wrist. Nerlens Noel will be the starting center for the foreseeable future. In Noel’s first start he had 10 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 steal while shooting five of six from the field. The numbers do not jump out right at you, but what stands out is the number of minutes he played. Noel played 32 minutes, which shows coach Thibs trust in Noel to fill in for Robinson full-time. Noel already has the capability to be one of the league leaders in blocks, and now with more minutes comes more stats. The Knicks play four games this week as well making Noel an enticing waiver wire add.
