The 2020 NFL Draft is upon us, and I am here to give you the First Look series. I will be going through around 30 players as the Draft goes on over the next 3 days. I will give you some background about the player, how they will fit into their new team, and their fantasy outlook going into the 2020 season. Here, I present the 6th Overall Pick Justin Herbert.
Also get the First Look on : Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa
Background
Herbert and the Oregon Ducks played in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day. He played great despite his team being down most of the game. Showing off his legs he ran for three rushing TDs as they went on to beat the Wisconsin Badgers. His pure arm talent, ability to read defenses and his athleticism will make him a top 10 pick. Herbert is excellent in the pre-snap phase as he reads the defense and executes on his next move. He has the touch to drop the ball in a streaking WR’s hand down the sideline. Herbert will have to improve when the pocket collapses on him as he struggled with poor mechanics when pressured.
Team Fit
Justin Hebert is joining one of the better offensive situations for a QB-needy team. Herbert will be welcomed in by elite pass-catching back Austin Ekeler, reception monster Keenan Allen, and jump-ball receiver Mike Williams. Herbert will be the Day 1 starter as I don’t believe Tyrod Taylor will be a threat to Herbert.
Fantasy Outlook
I would consider Herbert a late-round target in redraft leagues. He shouldn’t go any sooner than the 10th round but is a steal there. I can see producing fantasy-relevant weeks which would help if you don’t want to invest an early pick for a QB. In Dynasty SuperFlex leagues, Herbert will be a Top 7 pick. There are many that doubt how good Herbert is but he does have some very good targets around him.
