Hard as it may be to believe, week ten arrives in the NFL. Without doubt, it has been crazy up to this point in football, both in fantasy and the real thing. There have been plenty of injuries and plenty of players not measuring up to their forecasted performances. Of course, those happens every season. The crazy part has been trying to keep up with the players being released for one reason or another. Clearly, there are fantasy rosters that need some care to get healthy again. Never fear, Belly Up Sports has the tools to accomplish just that! Come along and dive right into this fantasy football week ten pickups edition. Note: all ownership percentages are taken from ESPN.
Running Backs
Nyheim Hines, Indianapolis Colts, 40% Owned
With the Jaguars up next, there really is no other reason needed to recommend picking up Nyheim Hines, if available, this week. Of course, Hines’ performance speaks loudly for an addition as well. That is especially true when looking at his game against the Jets Thursday night. The flood gates opened right off the bat at Hines took his first rush for a 34 yard gain. For the game, Hines finished with 74 yards on six rushes, including a touchdown.
In addition, Hines caught four of six targets for another 34 yards. The end result was 20 fantasy points for Hines, his most of the season. Buffalo and Tampa follow Jacksonville on the schedule, which means that Hines might only be a one week rental for now, but he is certainly worth the add right now. Hines leads the running back position to pickup this week.
Ty Johnson, New York Jets, 20.5% Owned
Much like Moore below, going up against the Buffalo defense is usually not a recipe for success. When it comes to the waiver wire at this point in the season, though, there aren’t many quality choices. To be sure, none of those choices have the Dolphins and Texans after the Bills and that is where Ty Johnson comes in. Actually, there aren’t many players who have shown the consistency that Johnson has over the past several weeks.
Johnson has scored more than 11 fantasy points every game since week week four, with a high of 19 coming against Cincinnati. Against the Colts on Thursday night, Johnson averaged 5.3 yards per carry while also catching two passes for 40 yards and a touchdown. Johnson has now had a receiving touchdown in consecutive games. As with Moore, placing Johnson into the starting lineup probably this week probably isn’t a wise strategy, but keeping him ready for the next two weeks certainly is.
Jordan Howard, Philadelphia Eagles, 8.1% Owned
Few, if any, players have rocketed from obscurity to a starting job like Jordan Howard has done in the past two weeks. Howard wasn’t even on the Eagles’ roster for the first seven weeks. However, since appearing in his first game of the season against Detroit in week eight, Howard has taken over as Philadelphia’s starting running back.
For sure, seeing a starting running back available on waivers at this point of the year is a rare sight. Yet, that is exactly where Howard sits at the moment. It is crystal clear, though, that won’t be the case for long. Howard followed up his two touchdown performance against the Lions with 17 rushes for 71 yards and a score. He out touched the other two backs on the roster combined. That should continue to be the case going forward, at least until Miles Sanders returns from injury. Maybe that will be true even when Sanders does return, whenever that is. In the meantime, do whatever is necessary and get Howard on a fantasy roster immediately.
Other Running Back Worth a Look:
Mark Ingram had his most productive game of the season making his second appearance since coming to the Saints from Houston. Ingram rushed nine times for 43 yards and caught five passes for another 21. He is owned in 23.5% of leagues and could be a productive pair with star Alvin Kamara. New Orleans has already had their bye week, which means that Ingram would be available to play in every game the rest of the way. He could be a wise pickup this week.
Wide Receivers
Elijah Moore, New York Jets, 15.3% Owned
Even with the tough Buffalo defense next up, Elijah Moore goes to the top of this fantasy football week ten pickups edition. All of the stats one can look at point to Moore being one of the best wide receivers available going forward. Moore has increased his fantasy point total for three straight weeks. Against the Colts on Thursday night, Moore caught seven of eight targets for 84 yards and two touchdowns.
It seems that it doesn’t matter who the starting quarterback is when it comes to Moore and his production. He has been targeted 20 times over the past three weeks. The fantasy totals may not be there this week, but with Miami and Houston next on the schedule, it makes all of the sense in the world to at least stash Moore this week. He will certainly be a hot commodity after this next game. Don’t delay, go get Moore today.
Tim Patrick, Denver Broncos, 24.7% Owned
Just when everyone is ready to give up on Tim Patrick, he makes a stirring comeback. None of which were most dramatic than his performance against Dallas. Against the Cowboys, Patrick caught four of of five targets for 85 yards and a touchdown. The TD was a thing of beauty as he hauled in a pass from Teddy Bridgewater and scored from 44 yards out. His 85 yard total led all of Denver’s receivers. His yards per catch was an excellent 21.3.
The catches and yards were his most since week five against Pittsburgh and the touchdown his first since week six. In the end, Patrick scored 19 fantasy points, his most of the season. The Broncos surprisingly dominated the Cowboys and much of the same could be on tap this week against the Eagles. Honestly, there isn’t a whole lot to choose from on the wire at this point and if a receiver that scored 19 fantasy points is available, make the jump. Patrick has earned his place on this fantasy football week ten top pickups edition.
Other Wide Receiver Worth a Look:
It is hard to know what to make of Russell Gage. He has been available in only two of Atlanta’s last six games. Yet, he is now penciled in as the Falcon’s top wide out with Calvin Ridley away from the team. Against the Saints, Gage caught seven of eight targets for 64 yards. He is currently owned in 16 percent of leagues and is worth an add if receiver is an issue on a roster.
Tight Ends
Dan Arnold, Jacksonville Jaguars, 16.8% Owned
As is usually the case, the tight end position has largely become invisible going into week ten. Fantasy managers need to look for any kind of potential that might be out there. Dan Arnold has the consistency and a safe floor that managers are looking for at this point in the season. Over the past two weeks, Arnold has been targeted 17 times. He has scored at least 10 fantasy points in three of his last four weeks.
Against a very strong Buffalo defense Sunday, Arnold caught four of seven targets for 60. That total comes out to a very good 15 yards per catch average. The previous week against Seattle, Arnold established season highs with 8 catches, 10 targets and 68 yards. Managers will take that kind of production from a tight end any day of the week. Much of that total can be expected with Indianapolis next up. Against admittingly weak competition, Arnold is at the top of this fantasy football week ten pickups edition.
Quarterbacks
Carson Wentz, Indianapolis Colts, 50% Owned
Without doubt, in two quarterback or in larger leagues, there is zero chance that Carson Wentz is available on the waiver wire. Even so, everyone involved in fantasy football needs to at least check and see if he is hanging around. Over the past six weeks, Wentz has been a very consistent and highly productive quarterback in both fantasy and on the field. Over that time span, Wentz has thrown two or more TD passes in every game, with three coming in each of the last two.
Additionally, Wentz has scored a minimum of 32.5 fantasy points in five of those six games. Wentz’ point totals have gone up each week since game six. Against the Jets, Wentz completed 22 of 30 passes for 272 yards and the three TDs. All of the above sounds great, I’m sure we all agree. However, that isn’t the best part when considering adding and starting Wentz. This week, the Colts’ opponent is Jacksonville. Nothing more needs to be said. If available, get Wentz on the team today. He leads the way as the priority add on this fantasy football week ten pickups edition.
Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons, 44% Owned
Much like Wentz, Matt Ryan isn’t available across the land as he approaches a 50 percent ownership rate. However, even in the shallowest of leagues, Ryan should unquestionably be on more rosters. Since week one, Ryan has had one clunker of a game, coming in week eight against Carolina. However, in every other contest, Ryan has been right around 40 fantasy points. That was certainly true against New Orleans.
For the game, Ryan completed 23 of 30 passes for 343 yards and two touchdowns. He also scored a TD on the ground. The effort rewarded his fantasy managers with 45.5 fantasy points, his second highest total of the season. Ryan has thrown for at least two touchdowns in six of eight games this season. The Cowboys are up next and their defense looked completely lost against Denver. No one would seriously argue that Teddy Bridgewater is a better quarterback than Ryan. Bridgewater scored 33.5 fantasy points against Dallas. Ryan should be able to best that total easily and has a high floor and an atmospheric ceiling this week. See if Ryan is available and act quickly if he is.
