Guaranteed* NBA Picks for March 7th-8th, 2020
*There is no guarantee to Finn’s Incoherent Weekend Picks, they’re made by the crazy 20-month old toddler below, the Translucent One.
Today is the second in many installments of Finn’s Incoherent Weekend Picks. Finn, my crazy 20-month old, whom you were introduced to last week has taken time out of his hectic schedule of eating and pooping to make his NBA selections. I also like to provide his commentary and the insanity going on while he’s diligently making his selections.
This week’s picks were again made by him pointing to NBA Team Logos for each match-up. There was no wrangling this week, as Finn became free-range, allowed to roam and wander during his picks. He would run up to the screen to confirm his selection if I couldn’t understand his choice.
Last week, Finn was correct in four of eight picks on Saturday, for a decent start to the weekend. Sunday proved tough for the Translucent One, only getting one of seven correct. He ended the weekend five for fifteen, for a measly 33% Correct Rate. We’ll see if he can bring his average up after this weekend.
Finn’s Incoherent Weekend Picks – Saturday, March 7th
Rockets v Hornets – For his first pick, Finn very quickly chose the Hornets. His reasoning was as confusing as it was quick, “Opposite opposite boy. Uh a boy.” *Jumped off couch and ran off into his brother’s room*
Jazz v Pistons – After getting him out of his brother’s room, he was ready to choose again. The Pistons get his pick this week because “ball!” I see a trend developing with the Pistons or any team that has a ball for a logo. When asked to elaborate on his choice he said, “Bad ball boys,” I’m assuming he’s referring to Detroit’s toughness.

For this match-up, I’m going to go against Finn. I think the Jazz look dangerous right now, and their defense can be suffocating; they are one of the only teams to hold the Celtics under 100 points this season. Combine that with their perimeter shooting, which ranks them at the top of the league for threes, and it’s a recipe for a dangerous team in the West. If they’re firing on all cylinders come playoffs, I would not want to be the team having to go up against the Jazz.
Nuggets v Cavaliers – Finn excitedly chose the Nuggets because “Nuggets, chicken nuggets, more nuggets.” *Handed me chap-stick*, “Open it” and demands his lips be softened. I also think he assumed he was getting chicken nuggets. Not the case little boy.
Hawks v Grizzlies – *Approached me with extra large bag of Sunkist Fruit Gummies demanding more sustenance* (pictured left). Grizzlies or Hawks, it’s a tough pick. Finn went back and forth but settled on selecting the Hawks because, “Birds *shoulder shrug* I dunno.”
76ers v Warriors – The 76ers are his pick, *ran into his brother’s bean bag chair screaming, slammed into it, and bounced off* “Mickey Mouse.” I’m not sure the connection, but he seems confident.
Kings v Trailblazers – Finn selects the Trailblazers, “In a minute” *waved arms and incoherently rambled with great passion* “Blazers, ya!”
Finn’s Incoherent Weekend Picks – Sunday, March 8th 2020
Bulls v Nets – He goes with the Nets definitively, then tosses out a, “What’s this?!” *pointed to laptop hinge* “PEEK-A-BOO!”
Lakers v Clippers – In a very quick response for Finn, he selects the Lakers. I asked him how he thinks LeBron is doing this year. His response, “I read it.” *grabbed book* “A show-er.” (not “shower” but “show”-“er”) I believe he wants to show LeBron his book on the Paw Patrol.
Pelicans v Timberwolves – The Pelicans. I showed him the logos and did a quick double-check. He confirmed Pelicans, then added, “They fix – uh Pelicans” *ran into room and brought back tools*
Thunder v Celtics – In no surprise at all he chose, “Uh Celtics.” Told you he’s a homer. He doesn’t need a reason, the reason is it’s the Celtics. He’ll beat you up over the Celtics.
Bucks v Suns – “Bucks!”, *repeated multiple times while running in a circle*. Despite Aron Baynes‘ big game Friday, the Suns lose to the Bucks.
Analysis by the Guardian of the Translucent One
This is a very difficult match-up to predict. While the easy pick would be the Bucks, the Phoenix Suns have dangerous weapons and have played well recently. The Bucks have also been staggered at times in games lately, with the Lakers showing a path to victory based off of Daniel Theis‘ defense on Giannis. Based on all of that, and Devin Booker‘s potential along with Baynes’ toughness, the Suns will beat the Bucks. Milwaukee has yet to have a slump this season, they’re due for one.

Magic v Rockets – Finn made a quick choice with the Rockets, “Pffffhhheewwww!!!” *made rocket noises, put his hands above his head, and took off into the kitchen*.
Heat v Wizards – He goes with the Heat *ran out of his room with a dinosaur*, “TA-DA!” On Bam Adebayo, “Bam, boom boom!” *runs over to give me “knuckles”*
Pacers v Mavericks– The Translucent One chose the Mavericks. On whether Luka Dončić is the MVP, “Yep, his fingers.” Finn must know something we all don’t about Luka.
Spurs v Cavaliers – “Cows”, was his quick response. I double-checked with him, and when asked again he had a loud, “Spurs, the basketball!” *ran over to our rocking chair, knocked the pillow off of it, then ran screaming out of the room*
Pistons v Knicks – “Hi Mom, hi Mom, my Mommmy, bye.” (She was at work and not in the room) “Watch out!” The Translucent One was getting tired and starting to revolt. After much pestering, he decided on the Knicks.
Raptors v Kings – “Dinosaurs, ya!” Finn’s love of dinosaurs may be skewing his picks when it comes to the Raptors.
Finn’s Incoherent Weekend Picks – The Wrap Up
Finn’s picks from last week were not great. This week, however, he was much more focused and understood the pressure riding on his shoulders.
Both he and I anxiously await the results of the picks. We’ll see how the Translucent One’s choices hold up again next week. Thanks for checking in!
