Fantasy Football

Is Christian McCaffrey Still a #1 Draft Pick?

You have the first overall pick in your 2021 fantasy draft. The #1 spot is usually automatic and doesn’t take much thought. Over the past few years, the top overall pick has been CMC without a doubt. After last year, though, is Christian McCaffrey still a #1 draft pick?

Christian McCaffrey Has More Questions Than Answers

If McCaffery’s season last year could be summed up in a few words, it would be “maybe next week.” Fantasy owners went pretty much the whole year not knowing if and when they would get him back in their lineups.

Now with injury concerns and the recent addition of Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers, it is hard to say what the Panthers offense will look like this year. Darnold is no stranger to injuries either so Carolina may need CMC to shoulder the load. That could be a tall order.

Christian McCaffrey is a dual threat running back, but is he still a #1 overall draft pick?

Still an Elite RB1

Don’t get me wrong, Christian McCaffrey is an absolute beast when he steps on the field. He is a generational talent without a doubt. I could easily see him finishing the year with a 1000 yard season and a league leader in receptions at the position. If he’s there in the 1st round, he’s going to get drafted and rightfully so. He has earned that, but I think there is just enough uncertainty to make him no longer a “no brainer” with the top overall pick.

Who should be #1?

If not CMC, then who are you drafting with the top spot? McCaffrey will still go in the 1st round and running backs are still the gold currency when it comes to fantasy football. A dual-threat receiving back is the crème de la crème at the RB position so one can argue that CMC is still worthy of the first pick. Some other popular picks could be Alvin Kamara or Dalvin Cook. Kamara is another elite receiving back who could get a lot more touches with Drew Brees gone. When it comes to Dalvin Cook, I’m convinced he can carry anything including the Minnesota Vikings all year. Either of these picks could be the safer bet.
