We’re approaching the end of the draft window for Major League Baseball Fantasy 2020. Those of you early drafters (myself included, in all 12 leagues) these names are probably well known. Although, there are family, work and fun leagues that will draft in the next two weeks or right before opening pitch on March 26th. I’m going to break down the top three prospects that will be up this year. These are the guys you should use your last round prospect picks on.

Jo Adell, Los Angeles Angels

The tenth overall pick of 2017 is ready to see the show. It’s widely expected he’ll start the year in the minors. This gives the Halo’s another year of team control and starts him out on a familiar level. Of his 76 games in 2019, he smacked 88 hits that included 10 home runs, 36 runs batted in and .289 batting average. So far in 2020 spring training, he’s been making a strong case to crack the roster for the opening game. Hands down Adell is the strongest candidate to start off using your last round prospect picks on. He has a tremendous upside as he’ll likely be hitting after Mike Trout.

Casey Mize, Detroit Tigers

Mize is the Tigers’ top prospect. He’s ranked the number one right-handed pitching prospect and easily cracks the Tigers top-five pitchers. The number one overall draft pick from 2018 wields a 92-96 MPH fastball with plus side command. His best pitch is a nasty splitter that free falls at the plate. That is A LOT of numbers ones. Mize has the pitching prowess to headline this Detroit rotation. He finished AA ball in 2019 with 15 starts, 6 wins and a 3.20 ERA. In his 2020 spring training debut the righty was perfect three for three striking out two. If the Tigers can give Mize the run support, watch out! He’s talented enough to notch the win column every time he stands on the bump.

Nate Pearson, Toronto Blue Jays

The Jays are packed with young talent. With a lineage of baseball royalty in Vladimir Guerrero Jr, Cavan Biggio, and Bo Bichette, Nate Pearson is just the next in line. The Jays top prospect and number two on the right-handed pitching prospects list (only behind Casey Mize) the Central Florida product has electric talent. His fastball will reach triple digits on the radar gun half of the time he uses it. A destructive slider that promotes weak contact when hit and otherwise fools bats with the best of them. The towering 6’6” hurler should start the season in the starting rotation and is an easy late round target in any redraft situation.
