Late QB Targets

The late-round QB strategy is very popular. However, after this past year where there was a much larger gap between the top QBs and the rest, the ADP of QBs has risen a lot this year. However, I still prefer to start with other positions. Because of that, the top QBs would all be gone. Here are some late QB targets.

Geno Smith // ADP: 16

He is probably the QB I would have in almost every league at this price. Geno Smith was the QB 5 last year and had a solid floor all season. He just got two new weapons in Jaxon-Smith Njigba and Zach Charbonnet so I don’t see how things could get worse. His ranking may fall because other QBs may improve, but I expect his fantasy production to be similar, if not better. For those that play in Superflex dynasty leagues, he’s also a buy-low target.

Aaron Rodgers // ADP: 15

The recent back-to-back MVP has been solid for fantasy his entire career. But Aaron Rodgers just came off his worst fantasy year. The narrative is that he’s getting old, and I don’t think that’s unjustified, but I think his poor receiving room played a part in his 2022 stats. With the loaded Jets offence, I think he should repeat as a QB1.

Anthony Richardson // ADP: 14

Many think this is too high for an unproven rookie, but I totally get this. He is possibly the most athletic QB to ever enter the league and he’s on a pretty good offence with a well-regarded coach. With talks they want Anthony Richardson to start week 1, the case is clearly there for him to be a top-12 QB. Though I don’t expect him to even be a top-25 passer, he was clearly drafted because of his legs. We saw Justin Fields miss 2 games and still hit QB6 despite being one of the worst passers in the league. But with weapons like Michael Pittman Jr, Alec Pierce, Josh Downs, and Jonathan Taylor, he’s got enough talent around him to have a higher likelihood of success in the passing game.

Wrap-Up

I understand the case for going for guys like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Jalen Hurts early. But I still think these 3 names have enough of a floor and ceiling for me to wait on QB and focus on other positions in the earlier rounds.
