As the Miami Dolphins gear up for the new season, there’s a mix of excitement and lingering questions surrounding the team. Last year had its share of highs and lows, leaving fans eager to see if the Dolphins can overcome the challenges ahead. An exciting regular season full of explosive offensive ultimately was overshadowed by a disappointing performance in a cold wild card round vs Kansas City. 

With key players returning and the roster bolstered, the big question is whether Miami can rise to the top of the competitive AFC East. Last season was plagued by injury on the defensive side of the ball. So, it will be interesting to see if those key players can return at a high level. The offensive side is sure to be potent once again under coach Mike McDaniel. But, it will be on Tua to live up to his recent contract extension. Will anyone emerge as an award contender? What’s a realistic win total for the season? With uncertainty in the air, we’re here to break down what to expect. For those placing bets in Florida or elsewhere, we’ve identified some strategic picks to watch.

Key Additions: Odell Beckham Jr. (WR, Ravens),  Jordyn Brooks (LB, Seahawks), Chop Robinson (DL, Penn State), Calais Campbell (DL, Falcons)

2024 Predictions

Record Prediction: The Miami Dolphins are 8th in strength of schedule this season. Their win total is currently set at 9.5, which is a perfect line for them. I see them going 10-7 this season, which would cash the over on their win total. 

Award / Bet Watchlist: Tyreek Hill was voted the best player in the NFL by his peers. But, does he have a real shot to win MVP at +7500 odds? Highly unlikely. Even though he has the second-best odds amongst non-QBS, history has shown that the MVP award has become strictly for quarterbacks. However, I love his chances of winning OPOY as the favorite at +700. 

Even though I have them sharing a record with the Bills this season, Miami has slightly more profitable odds to win the division at +200. If the defense can hold up, they have a good chance to win the East. My favorite bet for the Dolphins season is for last year’s leading passer Tua Tagovailoa to lead the statistic again at +800 odds. The oddsmakers seem to be taking last season as a fluke, as he has only the 5th best odds after leading last season.

Outlook

The Miami Dolphins will likely have a similar season to last year. They finished 11-6, which I think is their ceiling for this season. Their division has gotten tougher with the Jets adding Aaron Rodgers. Other teams will be better prepared for Mike McDaniel’s fast-moving offense. In the insanely competitive AFC, my projection of 10-7 may not be enough to get into the playoffs. But, most likely, they will get in as a wildcard team again. Hopefully for them, they don’t have to travel to another cold-weather city for their first round so that they have a chance to reach the divisional round. Anything past that would be a big surprise for me this season.
