With a little less than two months to go in Major League Baseball’s regular season, every series means more and more. Fresh out of the trade deadline, teams are beginning to solidify themselves as true World Series contenders. While some teams are falling out of the playoff race quickly. This should lead to some fantastic baseball down the stretch and into the Postseason. Let’s get into our MLB Best Bet at Citi Field between two NL East Rivals.
Best Bet: Philadelphia Phillies @ New York Mets
The Mets and Phillies are coming into this crucial series scorching hot. The Mets have won 14 of their last 16 games, including six in a row. The Phillies have also won 12 of their last 14 games. Both teams are getting quality starting pitching and clutch hits at the right time, pushing them to victory.
Ranger Suárez takes the mound tonight for the Phillies. He possesses a 3.68 ERA with 85 K’s in 101.1 innings. He started the season slowly but has bounced back nicely in his last four starts, only giving up three earned runs combined. Suárez also pitches much better away from Citizens Bank Park. He has a 6-1 record, a 2.87 ERA, and 46 strikeouts in nine starts on the road this season.
Max Scherzer gets the ball for the Mets tonight. Scherzer has been dominant all season for New York. He posts an 8-2 record and 1.92 ERA in 95.2 innings. However, he has not pitched very well against the Phillies in 2022. In three starts and only 17 innings, Scherzer has allowed 20 hits and eight earned runs. These three starts were in April and May when the Phillies were a miserable offensive team.
With the Phillies swinging the bats well and Ranger Saurez throwing effectively, I expect the Phillies to keep this game close.
The Play: Philadelphia Phillies +1.5 (-115)
