New to IDP // Part 3

Mekhi Becton will protect a rookie quarterback, but will his teammates?

I have been working on a series about my experience of being new to IDP leagues. I am going to continue with some new things I am learning about the format. Feel free to check out my previous articles in the series here and here.

The previous articles focused more on player selection in the draft. This article will focus more on in-season decisions.

Matchups

Matchups seem to matter a lot more for IDPs. When a defence faces a run-heavy team, the DLs are likely to get more fantasy points than the defensive backs. The reverse would be true if they play a pass-happy offence. In those cases, DBs would be getting more action.

Team

What the team is like can significantly affect IDP fantasy performance. Teams with high-scoring offences will cause opposing offences to need to throw a lot to keep up. This can mean DLs have more time to get sacks and DBs will get more usage. On the other hand, teams with poor offences will often play against teams that are more concerned with maintaining leads and killing the clock meaning they may be more likely to run the ball. This can mean the DLs can get more tackles while the DBs won’t get as many.

Wrap-Up

Knowing whose team the IDP plays for and who they will play against are pretty important factors when deciding who to start on a week-to-week basis. Hopefully I will be able to share more of my findings as I continue on this journey in being new to IDP.
