After what I think is the best NHL game of the season in game 1, the Penguins and Rangers are set to face off again tonight for game 2. This match-up has the makings of being a fantastic series that we will be talking about for years to come. This heated rivalry has always been a great match-up, especially in the post-season.

Pittsburgh Penguins @ New York Rangers

I think the Rangers were a bit unlucky in game 1. They had a goal called back to take the lead with about four minutes left in the third period that could have easily gone the other way. The Rangers were also called for four penalties while the Penguins only one. I feel that it will even out as it always does in the playoffs and a seven-game series.

The Rangers also will have to play tonight will more urgency. If they go down 2-0 in this series heading back to Pittsburgh, it likely means their season hopes will not get out of the first round of the playoffs. They will feed off the crowd and try to get an early lead on a shaky goaltender.

Lastly, this transitions nicely into my last point. The goalie difference in this game is massively in favor of the Rangers. Louis Domingue, the Penguins’ third-string goalie, is in line to start tonight after Casey DeSmith was injured in game 1. Igor Shesterkin will start for the Rangers as he continues his incredible season.

I expect the Rangers to even up this series at home before heading to Pittsburgh for game 3.
