Carolina. Not my favorite team in 2020. CMC is a monster. But, I am low on almost everyone, because I don’t believe Steady Teddy is a good fantasy QB. In case you missed it, last time we covered the Atlanta Falcons. Now, let’s try and enjoy McCaffrey and appreciate what he can do. The rest of these Panthers might be in for a bleak year comparatively.
QB:
Teddy Bridgewater: Passing: 341/517-3,621 Yds, 19 TD: 8 INT
Rushing: 38-118-1 TD, 7 FMBL
Standard: 223.64 (29)
0.5 PPR: 223.64 (29)
1 PPR: 223.64 (29)
Will Grier: Not playing. Probably losing out to Walker too.
P.J. Walker: Not playing either. But it wouldn’t surprise me to see Walker coming on to the field if Teddy goes down.
I just don’t believe Bridgewater is a good fantasy QB. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2015, when he threw 14 TDs, 9 INTs, and 3,231 Yds. Teddy had a 9-2 TD-INT ratio for the Saints in the 5 games he started. He threw for 241 yards per game, 1.8 TD per game, and 0.4 INT per game then also. He is not known for his rushing ability, and I don’t think he is prolific. To summarize, he is a game manager. I am not getting any exposure to him.
Or the backups for that matter, I am not overly impressed period. There is a very real chance the Panthers are looking at QB next year. Maybe I am wrong, but are you willing to bet your fantasy season on it?

CMC. The consensus number one fantasy player, and for good reason. It’s not that I am low on CMC in 2020. On the contrary, he is the person on the team I want most exposure to. I want him more than everyone not named Saquon. I also think he is gonna have a harder time finding the end zone in 2020 in a Bridgewater offense. That being said, he is still gonna get an incredible target share, and he is freaking good at football. I have offensive line questions, but there is no doubt that healthy McCaffrey winds up as a top 3 RB in 2020. He is safe, Take him with confidence, I even get taking him at 1.
Bonnafon is the handcuff to own for the Panthers. Mike Davis is just gonna vulture a goal line TD from someone, and Scarlett wont see the field much if everyone is healthy. Bonnafon will spell CMC on occasion, but he won’t get enough touches to be fantasy relevant. IF CMC goes down, this offense is gonna get ugly, so I am not sure I want any of these guys regardless of the situation.
WR:
D.J. Moore: Rushing: 8-81, 3 FMBL
Receiving: 119 targets, 78 catches, 1,406 Yds, 4 TD
Standard: 133.7 (28)
0.5 PPR: 172.7 (28)
1 PPR: 211.7 (27)
Curtis Samuel: Rushing: 12-106-1 TD
Receiving: 84 targets, 51 catches, 588 Yds, 3 TD
Standard: 93.4 (55)
0.5 PPR: 118.9 (54)
1 PPR: 144.4 (55)
Robby Anderson: Rushing: 1-6, 1 FMBL
Receiving: 81 targets, 42 catches, 606 Yds, 5 TD
Standard: 90.2 (57)
0.5 PPR: 111.2 (60)
1 PPR: 132.2 (61)
Seth Roberts: Receiving: 10 targets, 6 catches, 61 Yds
Standard: 6.1 (152)
0.5 PPR: 9.1 (152)
1 PPR: 12.1 (152)
Pharoh Cooper: Receiving: 8 targets, 5 catches, 38 Yds
Standard: 3.8 (161)
0.5 PPR: 6.3 (158)
1 PPR: 8.8 (158)
Panthers fans are surely throwing things by now. I get it, D.J. Moore is young and he looks to be trending towards stardom. I just think we are anointing him early. He did have 87 catches, for 1,175 Yds in 2019, but none of his other numbers really impress. And in case you didn’t know already, I don’t think Teddy is gonna help any of these receivers be fantasy relevant. Moore should continue improving, but his stardom path has flattened slightly. Should only be a temporary issue though.
Samuel and Anderson both possess flex depth potential, I prefer Samuel to Anderson as I think his floor is a bit safer. But Anderson has the higher boom potential on a weekly basis. I do have some exposure to Samuel as he seems to be drafted lower than I have him. As far as the other guys, trust me, they are not relevant. Avoid. Between CMC and Moore each eating massive amounts of targets, there won’t be much to go around for everyone else.
TE:
Ian Thomas: Receiving: 56 targets, 38 catches, 347 Yds, 3 TD
Standard: 52.7 (30)
0.5 PPR: 71.7 (29)
1 PPR: 90.7 (29)
Chris Manhertz: Receiving: 9 targets, 7 catches, 66 Yds
Standard: 6.6 (77)
0.5 PPR: 10.1 (74)
1 PPR: 13.6 (72)
Temarrick Hemingway: Receiving: 5 targets, 3 catches, 29 Yds
Standard: 2.9 (81)
0.5 PPR: 4.4 ( 81)
1 PPR: 5.9 (91)
Thomas has me slightly intrigued, but again I am not so high on the offense as a whole outside CMC. How many targets could Thomas reasonably get? I feel like he has upside, but his floor is anything but safe. He has not been overly impressive up to this point in his career, and this isn’t exactly an offense to break out in. I like him as a flier, late-round pick to get some TE depth, nothing more.
Ignore the other two completely. However, admire their names, definitely the most interestingly named backup TE combo in the league. Good on ya, guys!
I project the Panthers score 1,103.64 points in 0.5 PPR formats, which is 29th. A whole bunch of that is McCaffrey. Outside of him, I won’t be having exposure to much of this offense. I am not saying Teddy is a bad QB. What I am saying is he is a bad fantasy QB. I like Samuel later, but I will probably avoid the majority of this offense in 2020. Moore in dynasty is still excellent regardless.
Hate away Panthers fans. With the year I figure yall are about to have, it’s the least I can do. Follow me on Twitter @realryanhicks. Follow Belly Up Fantasy on Twitter for all your sports needs. Next up, we have the New Orleans Saints.
