Player Point Totals to Bet for the NHL Season

The 2021 NHL Season is only a few days away. The excitement is hard to contain as hockey fans are eager for the season to start. With the upcoming 56 game season comes the desire to place some prop bets. After all, if you love Connor McDavid and want to see him score, you might as well bet the Over on his high point total (75.5). We should keep in mind when we make these bets that players can miss games if outbreaks occur. Let’s take a look at five Player Point Totals that would be advisory to bet on.

Ovechkin Over 52.5

I was genuinely shocked to see Ovechkin with such a low total for points. Ovechkin is one of the best players in the NHL and possibly one of the best scorers of all time. While the total suggests a decline, it’s important to keep in mind that Ovi scored 67 points in 68 games last season. Expect one of the best scorers to clear the low points total despite the shortened season.

Marchand Under 71.5

Brad Marchand is questionable to play at the beginning of the season with an offseason surgery and might miss some time. Even if he plays, the early struggle is inevitable. In addition, this is a high total for anyone in the NHL and only a few players will go Over 71 points this season. Marchand is good and one of the best scorers in the NHL, scoring 87 points last season and 100 the season prior. However, it would be most advisory to bet the Under in the shortened season on a player that will have to potentially battle injuries early on in the season.

Jack Hughes Over 34.5

For one of the top line skaters on the Devils, this is an incredibly low total for Jack Hughes. In his rookie season, Hughes struggled to develop on a Devils team that was a mess across the board. In his second season, we can expect Hughes to improve and become a top player in the league as the number one pick. With the expectation of Hughes being paired with the few Devils scorers they possess, we can expect Hughes to pile on the points and go Over the low total.

Cale Makar Under 47.5

Cale Makar is one of the best young defensemen in the NHL and one of the best scoring defensemen in the NHL as well. Makar is also part of a loaded roster in Colorado that should help his production. Nathan McKinnon, Gabriel Landeskog, and others will have to give Makar plenty of scoring opportunities from the point. However, 47.5 points is a high total for any defenseman. Even though Makar is one of the best in the game, betting the Under is the safe bet here.

Roman Josi Over 39.5

Roman Josi has been one of the best defensemen in the NHL for years. In recent years, Josi has worked on his offensive game. Josi has seen improvements in his stats offensively in each of his last four seasons. Last season his numbers earned him the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s best defensemen. Even though 39.5 is a high total for a defensive player, we can expect Josi to clear the Over on the total.
