Quarterbacks are some of the biggest names in this draft class for fantasy and real-life football. There are four quarterbacks who many project to go top-10 in this draft. We’re going to look at some of these potential rookie QB landing spots.
Pick 1: Carolina Panthers – B+
Josh McCown may have let the world know CJ Stroud is their first overall pick when he said “Maybe when you live in Charlotte…” to him. It would be a pretty good situation with a seasoned coaching staff to learn from, a veteran QB in Andy Dalton to learn from, and a decent offensive line. The weapons in Adam Thielen, DJ Chark, Miles Sanders, and Hayden Hurst may not be amazing, but they’re not horrible. Plus, they could make more moves before the season starts.
Pick 2: Houston Texans – C-
The Texans have been one of the worst organizations in the league. Their new coaching staff and roster don’t inspire much confidence either. They may have better weapons than the Panthers, but that’s not enough to make me confident that they’ll be able to set up that QB for success any time soon.
Pick 4: Indianapolis Colts – A-
The Colts have a Superbowl finalist coach in Steichen, a decent offensive line, pretty good weapons, and some potential mentors in Gardner Minshew and Nick Foles. With it being unlikely they get one of the top two prospects, they may draft someone who will need to sit and learn for a while. This may require patience from a fantasy point of view, but that could mean a good setup for 2024.
Pick 5: Seattle Seahawks – A-
The Seahawks would be an amazing landing spot. The offensive line may not be great, but the coach and the weapons are. The only issue is whether Geno Smith plays well enough to keep his job.
Pick 6: Detroit Lions – A
This could be one of the best landing spots. Though the team is weak on defence, it is amazing on offence. Similarly to the Seahawks, they may not need a QB as they have a pretty good one right now.
Pick 7: Las Vegas Raiders – B-
Many expected the Raiders to draft a rookie QB after the release of Derek Carr. However, there’s no guarantee a top-4 QB makes it to them. I doubt they let one of the top-4 pass them though. They have a sub-par coach, a sub-par line, a pretty decent veteran QB, and great weapons. I think CJ Stroud or Bryce Young could succeed here, but I’d be nervous about how a less polished QB would develop here.
Bonus: Baltimore Ravens – B+
If one of the teams with an early draft pick would rather have Lamar, they may be willing to use it to acquire the former MVP. This franchise is very well regarded and they still look great everywhere besides at WR. However, with no QB to learn behind at the moment and limited weapons, there are concerns.
Wrap-Up
For CJ Stroud and Bryce Young, though the landing spot matters, I don’t think it will matter as much since I believe more in their talent. However, for Anthony Richardson and Will Levis, having a good team that can develop them well is likely more important for their success. Either way, the rookie QB landing spot matters.
