Saints Projections: Keep Marching

Nawlins! Where it’s Mardi Gras every day of the year. Lots of fantasy superstars on this Saints roster. In case you missed it, we just covered the Carolina Panthers. Now, let’s head to the Superdome, get nose rings, and eat cajun food while celebrating all this offensive firepower.

QB:

Yes Drew, probably pointing at the NFL record books, getting ready to etch his name deeper into it.

Drew Brees: Passing: 394/531-4,442 Yds, 31 TD: 6 INT
Rushing: 14-19-1 TD: 3 FMBL
Standard: 300.58 (10)
0.5 PPR: 300.58 (10)
1 PPR: 300.58 (10)

Taysom Hill: Passing: 1/3-11 Yds
Rushing: 34-191-2 TD: 1 FMBL
Receiving: 26 targets, 19 catches, 211 Yds, 3 TD
Standard: 69.64 (35)
0.5 PPR: 79.14 (35)
1 PPR: 88.64 (35)

Jameis Winston: Passing: 28/44-359 Yds, 2 TD: 1 INT
Rushing: 6-21, 1 FMBL
Standard: 22.46 (40)
0.5 PPR: 22.46 (40)
1 PPR: 22.46 (40)

Brees remains elite as long as he plays. The dude is as efficient as it gets. He is the most accurate QB of all time. He has weapons galore. I do suspect that Jameis comes in some during blowouts. But Brees is going to produce like he always has. He is a safe QB1, albeit one without the upper echelon ceilings of guys like Mahomes and Lamar. I love pairing Jameis with Brees, it just makes way too much sense. If Brees goes down, it will be Jameis who is handed the keys to the car, and this car can fly. Hill is a gadget player only, and I am not even sure he is worth having in fantasy. He might win you one week, but his consistency is a big issue.

The Saints seem to have acquired their successor to Brees. in dynasty, Jameis Winston became pretty dang valuable. But enjoy one more year of Brees, and the consistency that comes with him.

RB:

This guy can flat out play. A healthy Kamara in 2020 will mean happy Saints fans, and fantasy owners.

Alvin Kamara: Rushing: 194-938-8 TD: 2 FMBL
Receiving: 101 targets, 82 catches, 619 Yds, 4 TD
Standard: 225.7 (7)
0.5 PPR: 266.7 (5)
1 PPR: 307.7 (4)

Latavius Murray: Rushing: 149-623-5 TD: 1 FMBL
Receiving: 33 targets, 25 catches, 221 Yds, 1 TD
Standard: 119.4 (38)
0.5 PPR: 131.9 (42)
1 PPR: 144.4 (41)

Ty Montgomery: Rushing: 18-77
Receiving: 11 targets, 7 catches, 77 Yds
Standard: 15.4 (91)
0.5 PPR: 18.9 (88)
1 PPR: 22.4 (87)

Ok, so Kamara is elite. His pass-catching consistency is mind-boggling. Three straight seasons with exactly 81 catches is impressive. Kamara only scored 6 times in 2019, do not expect that to repeat into 2020. Nor should you expect his 18 total TD outburst in 2018. 12 TDs seems more in line. In PPR, Kamara is gold. Even in standard, he should produce well enough to merit an early look. Be happy with Kamara, he is elite, in an elite offense. That’s a wonderful combo.

Murray is one of the better second options at RB. He is gonna get his touches, as the Saints don’t want to overburden Kamara. Murray produces admirably when he gets the ball. I love him as depth at RB and flex. He is relatively consistent as far as getting enough touches to be playable. Kamara can’t tote the rock 250 times. Murray will be called on, and he is a wicked handcuff for Kamara. Montgomery only becomes viable via injury to the two above him.

WR:

You can’t guard him, and you can’t stop him from catching everything all day.

Michael Thomas: Receiving: 168 targets, 135 catches, 1,574 Yds, 9 TD: 1 FMBL
Standard: 210.4 (1)
0.5 PPR: 277.9 (1)
1 PPR: 345.4 (1)

Emmanuel Sanders: Receiving: 89 targets, 56 catches, 770 Yds, 5 TD
Standard: 107 (45)
0.5 PPR: 135 (45)
1 PPR: 163 (35)

Tre’Quan Smith: Receiving: 33 targets, 22 catches, 343 Yds, 3 TD
Standard: 52.3 (92)
0.5 PPR: 63.3 (92)
1 PPR: 74.3 (95)

Deonte Harris: Rushing: 5-38
Receiving: 9 targets, 5 catches, 26 Yds
Standard: 6.4 (151)
0.5 PPR: 8.9 (153)
1 PPR: 11.4 (153)

Lil’Jordan Humphrey: Receiving: 4 targets, 2 catches, 13 Yds
Standard: 1.3 (170)
0.5 PPR: 2.3 (170)
1 PPR: 3.3 (170)

I am not sure MT has a ceiling when it comes to catches, since he just rewrote the record books in 2019. 149 catches is just ridiculous. While I expect that number to be slightly lower, I am projecting MT to still lead the league in catches by a wide margin. He has also scored 9 TDs in 3 of his 4 seasons. He has not been below 1,136 yards so far, and there is no reason to expect regression. The addition of Sanders will force defenses to pay more attention the Saints second WR, and Thomas is gonna feast once again. He should be the first WR off the board, simply due to his top 3 WR floor. Nobody is safer, especially in PPR. He just posted his second consecutive season over 80 percent catch percentage. I could go on all day about this guy. Just be happy if he makes it to you. MT is one of the only non RB I look at when I get later slots.

Sanders should benefit from playing opposite Thomas as well. I like him as flex depth and WR depth. I actually have a decent amount of exposure to Sanders. This passing attack is going to be devastating, Sanders should be able to get a decent chunk of it.

Smith is an option I like as far as fliers go. He has been relatively efficient when healthy, but his health is a major concern. Feel free to ignore the other guys, they might have a big game between them, but there will be no consistent production

TE:

Cook ages like a fine wine. We might be seeing him at his best yet. He is a top 10 TE in 2020 barring injury.

Jared Cook: Receiving: 71 targets, 47 catches, 715 Yds, 6 TD: 1 FMBL
Standard: 106.5 (6)
0.5 PPR: 130 (6)
1 PPR: 153.5 (6)

Josh Hill: Receiving: 25 targets, 17 catches, 175 Yds, 2 TD
Standard: 29.5 (52)
0.5 PPR: 38 (49)
1 PPR: 46.5 (50)

Adam Trautman: Receiving: 8 targets, 6 catches, 68 Yds
Standard: 6.8 (75)
0.5 PPR: 9.8 (75)
1 PPR: 12.8 (75)

Cook isn’t getting the love he deserves in redraft. What more does the guy gotta do? 43 catches for 705 Yds and 9 TDs is pretty excellent. Brees’ pinpoint accuracy and the Saints’ open offense should allow for Cook to continue whipping up tasty dishes. Get it, his last name is Cook. I bet he makes a mean Jambalaya!

Hill is useful only if Cook goes down, and I dunno how long he holds Trautman back. Trautman is the guy I want exposure to in dynasty. Now that Jameis is there, I feel stronger about the Saints dynasty value in general. But Cook owns this TE room for at least one more year.

I project the Saints to score 1,484.88 points in 0.5 PPR formats, which is 2nd. They offer elite potential at every position. Sanders is a helluva second WR, and this offense scores a whole lot which bodes well for all the players. Dipping into this Saints offense is a smart move that will pay off big.
