Brandon Aiyuk is a very talented WR. He is on a great offense with a great coach and he just came off of a great season. However, being ranked around the WR12 is too high for me. I’d recommend that you sell high on Brandon Aiyuk.
History
His history has been as the WR35, WR35, WR15, and WR14. That’s pretty good, but I don’t see his production as sustainable for this upcoming season. With Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Christian McCaffrey all signed for this upcoming year, he has a lot of target competition. You may argue that he had the same competition this past year and still performed well, but I’d say it was an anomaly of a season. He averaged 17.89 yards per catch and caught over 71% of his targets, which is an insane level of efficiency. This does speak to his talent, but I cannot see it as being repeatable for someone unlikely to get significantly more than 100 targets. He has also never been a big touchdown guy.
Future
There’s a chance he could lose target competition with Samuel, Kittle, and McCaffrey all not being guaranteed to be there in 2025, but I still don’t expect his value to rise over the 2024 season. I think Jaylen Waddle, Drake London, D.J. Moore, Tee Higgins, and D.K. Metcalf all have strong chances to overtake Aiyuk this upcoming season. It’s likely Aiyuk will get a decent extension, and he could have upside beyond the 2024 season, but I think he will be cheaper to acquire a year from now.
Wrap-Up
I’m not saying he’s going to be a bust. I still think it’s likely that he is at least a WR2. But I definitely expect a drop in production and value for this upcoming year. If you can sell him to get one of the receivers I mentioned above plus another notable piece, I’d definitely do that. Sell high on Brandon Aiyuk.
