Start Em, Sit Em: Week 2

Welcome back for Start Em, Sit Em: Week 2! Hopefully, I prevented you from having the Le’Veon Bell blues as week 1 concluded and I’ll also take this opportunity to apologize for suggesting you start Mark Ingram. Week 2 is full of great fantasy match-ups. With injuries already piling up throughout the league, I look to bring you less a obvious options for your starting line-up this week. Check us out at Belly Up Fantasy Sports online!

Start Em QBs:

Titans' new season hinges on quarterback Ryan Tannehill

Ryan Tannehill vs JAX

Last season when the Jags visited the Music City, Tannehill lead the Titans to a 42-20 blow out. He rushed for 2 TDs and threw for 259 yards and 2 more scores. The Corey Davis sighting in week 1 gives me hope he can flourish in a WR2 role, giving the Titans a very underrated cast around their franchise QB. Philip Rivers totaled 363 yards and completed 78% of his passes against Jacksonville in week 1, there’s no reason to think Tannehill won’t have a field day as the lowly Jaguars defense have the burden of Derrick Henry as public enemy #1.

Josh Allen @ MIA

Bills QB Josh Allen showed us he was ready to rock, preseason or not! He had 14 carries for 57 yards and a TD while completing 33 of 46 passes for 312 yards and 2 TDs and 0 INTs. The Dolphins found themselves getting gashed on the ground by Patriots QB Cam Newton for 75 yards and 2 TDs and allowed Cam to complete nearly 80% of his passes. The addition of Stefon Diggs proved to be a smart move for Buffalo, he and John Brown looked the part of a solid WR duo. The damage Allen could do on the ground alone against this Miami defense makes him a must-start in Week 2.

Start Em RBs:

Why David Montgomery won't be a bell cow in 2020 | Fantasy Football News, Rankings and Projections | PFF

David Montgomery vs NYG

The New York Giants allowed next man up, Benny Snell, to rack up over 100 yards rushing in Week 1. I know, David had limited touches due to a groin injury in Detroit, but I suspect there will be more touches and targets as he made it through the week without gracing the injury report. The Bears’ passing game had a surprise eruption last week, cue the open running lanes in Week 2. The former Iowa State Cyclone needs to be in your lineup this week against the Giant’s defense that was just dismantled by Pittsburgh.

Buccaneers RBs: Ronald Jones & Leonard Fournette vs CAR

The Panthers had the league’s worst run defense in 2019, surrendering 2,011 yards and 30 TDs on the ground. In their 2020 debut they allowed Josh Jacobs to hit pay dirt 3 times while racking up 139 yards from scrimmage. Ronald Jones was the clear RB1 in this backfield, however, Fournette’s role will increase as the year progresses, and they should feast on the visiting Panthers. There will be plenty of fantasy points for the Bucs as they make a statement after their Week 1 disappointment.

Start Em WRs:

Darius Slayton hauls in 41-yard TD from Daniel Jones vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Darius Slayton @ CHI

If you hadn’t heard, this is the New York Giants’ #1 WR. The Auburn product led the Giants in targets on Monday Night Football vs Pittsburgh. He caught 6 of 9 targets for 102 yards and 2 TDs against a defense that hadn’t allowed a 100 yard WR since Week 12 of last season. Slayton having a day like that against Pittsburgh has me pondering if he’s going to have a match-up proof 2020 season. I’m not there yet, but there’s no way I leave Darius on my bench against the Bears in Week 2.

Parris Campbell vs MIN

Campbell tallied 9 targets in Week 1 catching 6 for a team leading 71 yards on opening weekend at Jacksonville. The Vikings allowed 5 different Packers’ to catch 4 or more passes last week vs Green Bay. I get it, Rivers is no Rodgers, but the Vikings only allowed 8 rushing TDs in 2019. The Colts will have to throw to win this game, rookie RB Jonathan Taylor can’t carry the team just yet. Parris looks to break-out after having an injury plagued start to his career. If you’re an owner missing Michael Thomas or Kenny Golladay or own possible scratches Chris Godwin, DeVante Parker or JuJu Smith-Schuster, Campbell could fill in admirably for you this week.

Start Em TEs:

Washington Football Team beats Eagles in season opener, 27-17 | WJLA

Logan Thomas @ ARI

Logan Thomas had a team high 8 targets in last week’s win over the visiting Eagles. He caught 4 of those targets for 37 yards and Haskins’ sole TD pass. The Cardinals are notoriously poor at covering pass catching TEs and had Kittle not exited last week’s contest with a knee injury, he would have reiterated that point for me. Thomas looks to build on his Week 1 performance against the best possible match-up for opposing TEs, and at 6’6″ the former QB is a threat once Washington gets into the redzone.

Jared Cook @ LV

Jared Cook was the Saints’ leading receiver in Week 1 vs Tamp Bay, logging 5 receptions for 80 yards on 7 targets. All-world WR Michael Thomas not being available in Las Vegas this week should funnel more targets in Cook’s direction. The Raiders were tied for 3rd for most TDs allowed to the TE position in 2019 with 9. Cook will be the main down field threat as Emmanuel Sanders gets acclimated to the offense sliding into the WR1 role.

Sit Em QBs:

Cam Newton Has the Patriots Offense Looking Very Different Already - The Ringer

Cam Newton @ SEA

Cam carried the Patriots to a Week 1 win over the Miami Dolphins, literally. 15 carries, nearly all of them were designed QB runs. Cam’s injury history suggests that won’t be a sustainable work load for the 31 year-old QB. Travelling to Seattle, the Patriots are in for a rough day vs a defense that sacked Matt Ryan twice, hit him 10 times, and intercepted him once. Newton already has a bothersome hamstring after Week 1, and he doesn’t have near the caliber weapons surrounding him as Matt Ryan does in Atlanta. I know there was optimism for Cam after his performance vs Miami, but you may want to pass on starting him this week in Seattle.

Drew Lock @ PIT

The Steelers picked off Daniel Jones twice, sacked him 3 times and help him to a rating of 79.2 in their Week 1 showdown, not to mention holding Saquon to 6 rushing yards. Outside of WR Darius Slayton, the Giants offense was completely shut down. Drew Lock didn’t have a great day against the Titans in Denver last week and his top WR’s game-day status is still in question due to a shoulder injury. The Broncos are in for a long night in Pittsburgh visiting Big Ben & the boys, I’m not starting any Broncos.

Sit Em RBs:

Fantasy Football: Melvin Gordon will replace Phillip Lindsay

Melvin Gordon @ PIT

Hey, I am a big fan of Melvin Gordon, but he didn’t exactly look great last week. His 4th quarter 25 yard burst and late touchdown salvaged his fantasy performance, both coming after Phillip Lindsay left the game with a toe injury. The Steelers only allowed a healthy Saquon Barkley to rush for 6 yards. Yes, 6! On 15 carries. Like I said above, I am not starting any Broncos in Pittsburgh.

Raheem Mostert @ NYJ

Seeing Raheem Mostert in the Sit Em portion of this article may have you a bit puzzled, lead back in a heavy run offense & all. If Mostert didn’t log a 76 yard catch and run TD he would have left many owners disappointed as 2020 got underway. It’s well known I am not on the Mostert train, and after the 49ers gave Jerick McKinnon 5 redzone touches to Mostert’s 1, you should join me. Especially this week, I’m talking to you, Marco!

Sit Em WRs:

Dolphins WR Devante Parker likely to return vs. Jets

DeVante Parker vs BUF

DeVante is battling a hamstring injury and has a history of playing poorly when he’s not 100% healthy. The Bills defense allowed the second fewest receiving TDs in the league with last season with only 6. Last week’s outing wasn’t anything to be excited about as DeVante was held to 4 receptions for 47 yards and was 3rd on the team in targets. With the Dolphins having almost no running game, it will be a difficult task to get a hobbled DeVante going.

Courtland Sutton @ Pit

Courtland is yet to hit the field after suffering a shoulder injury late in the preseason. I’m not confident he will have much of a debut visiting the Steel Curtain. I really like Sutton for 2020, health & a poor match-up have me avoiding him in my line-ups in Week 2. Like I said above, No Broncos this week!

Keenan Allen vs KC

Keenan managed only 3 catches for 24 yards vs Kansas City last season in their 2 meetings. He did have a TD reception in each of those meetings, but still pretty poor production for a borderline WR1. The Chiefs held most of the Texans in check in their Week 1 win over Houston, and they had 10 days to prepare for their date with the new look Los Angeles Chargers.

Sit Em TEs:

Denver Broncos news: Rookie TE Noah Fant signs 4-year contract

Noah Fant @ PIT

This one hurts. I am a huge fan of Noah Fant going clear back to his high school days 10 miles from my home after he committed to the University of Iowa. Fant had a monster first half in Week 1 but didn’t receive a target in the 2nd half of their loss to the Tennessee Titans. You get the point by now that I am sitting every Bronco, but Evan Engram was held to 2 receptions for 9 yards on 7 targets last week. I just can’t.

Jordan Akins vs BAL

Akins played over 80% of the offensive snaps for the Texans last week, putting to rest any speculation as to who the Texans TE would be. Akins didn’t have an incredible Week 1 but his dominance of the snaps shows he has a great opportunity in a potent passing attack. That being said the Ravens are visiting Houston this week, they were among the stingiest against opposing TEs in 2019. Keep Akins on your bench this week with the Ravens coming to town.
