Tompa Bay Buccaneers Projections

Tompa Bay. The Buccaneers are the big thing in 2020. Brady and Gronk joining forces with Evans and Godwin. It’s like the Avengers. Or will it be like Justice League? In case you missed it, we just covered the Minnesota Vikings. Now, we head to Tampa, everyone’s default pick in the 2020 Super Bowl. Let’s see if adding a WWE champ helps Tampa.

QB:

Just look at it. The hair. Hahaha, this picture is from the goofiest of Tom’s hairstyles. I want him to bring this back!

Tom Brady: Passing: 368/592-4,479 Yds, 30 TD: 9 INT
Rushing: 22-31-1 TD: 7 FMBL
Standard: 292.26 (12)
0.5 PPR: 292.26 (12)
1 PPR: 292.26 (12)

Blaine Gabbert: Passing: his time while holding out hope he gets a Super Bowl ring.
Rushing: to Tom’s locker to ask if he wants to hang out today. Maybe today will be his day!
Gabbert is not the guy Buccaneer Fans wanna see. Thanks, Captain Obvious!

Brady is not the same guy who threw 50 TDs. But I don’t think hes that far off. He takes excellent care of his body, to a pretty incredible degree. He hasn’t had weapons like this in some time. And he is razor sharp in his knowledge of the game. Arians and Leftwich are going to let Brady run this offense, and Brady is going to capitalize on that to kick out a top 10 fantasy offense for the Buccaneers.

Let’s be serious, if Brady goes down, you want to get Gabbert. I wouldn’t even blame you for rostering him if you have Brady. Just use your last pick. There is a chance Tampa acquires a QB if Brady goes down, but Gabbert would be the short-term option at worst, and with these weapons, he could become a legit Superflex option at QB. But Brady has been incredibly healthy throughout his career. Each year his chances of getting injured go up, but I still think they are relatively low.

RB:

Vaughn is solid but unspectacular. So is Jones. But they are both flex options.

Ke’Shawn Vaughn: Rushing: 162-687-5 TD: 1 FMBL
Receiving: 49 targets, 36 catches, 316 Yds, 2 TD
Standard: 141.3 (31)
0.5 PPR: 159.3 (31)
1 PPR: 177.3 (32)

Ronald Jones: Rushing: 176-723-6 TD: 2 FMBL
Receiving: 38 targets, 28 catches, 241 Yds, 1 TD
Standard: 136.4 (32)
0.5 PPR: 150.4 (33)
1 PPR: 164.4 (35)

Dare Ogunbowale: Rushing: 19-71-1 TD
Receiving: 22 targets, 15 catches, 127 Yds, 1 TD
Standard: 31.8 (74)
0.5 PPR: 39.3 (74)
1 PPR: 46.8 (73)

LeSean McCoy: Rushing: 9-34
Receiving: 7 targets, 5 catches, 32 Yds
Standard: 6.6 (101)
0.5 PPR: 9.1 (101)
1 PPR: 11.6 (100)

These backs all benefit from Brady and the receiving options. None of them are special backs, but touches will equal production in this offense. I expect Vaughn to get a few more catches than Jones, which moves him just past him for me. But I want neither of these guys starting in one of my two RB slots. They are flex options, because of this Buccaneer offense.

Ogunbowale is gonna get a handful of touches, but his value goes up if either of those guys above him go down. He is not rosterable unless that happens. I guess I can understand a dynasty flier on him. McCoy is not effective anymore and I would be shocked if he wound up with more touches than any of the guys above him. Why would he?

WR:

Evans and Godwin are an excellent tandem. And I imagine them as best friends.

Mike Evans: Receiving: 134 targets, 77 catches, 1,119 Yds, 8 TD: 1 FMBL
Standard: 158.9 (14)
0.5 PPR: 197.4 (13)
1 PPR: 235.9 (13)

Chris Godwin: Receiving: 122 targets, 80 catches, 1,154 Yds, 7 TD: 2 FMBL
Standard: 155.4 (16)
0.5 PPR: 195.4 (14)
1 PPR: 235.4 (14)

Tyler Johnson: Receiving: 41 targets, 21 catches, 237 Yds, 2 TD
Standard: 35.7 (104)
0.5 PPR: 46.2 (103)
1 PPR: 56.7 (103)

Justin Watson: Receiving: 17 targets, 9 catches, 87 Yds
Standard: 8.7 (148)
0.5 PPR: 13.2 (146)
1 PPR: 17.7 (144)

Scott Miller: Receiving: 12 targets, 6 catches, 74 Yds
Standard: 7.4 (149)
0.5 PPR: 10.4 (149)
1 PPR: 13.4 (149)

Evans and Godwin both flirt with WR1 status. Both could easily finish top 12. They each have pretty solid floors, and I wouldn’t blame you for liking either more than the other. Both are easy set and forget WRs. They should flourish in what should be an open offense. Neither will lead the league in targets, but both will easily eclipse 100. I want exposure to both, and doubling down would be an amazing get.

Tyler Johnson is the WR3 I like, but mostly in dynasty. Evans and Godwin are going to eat. I struggle to see Johnson seeing the volume necessary to start for me at any point this year. Watson and Miller are afterthoughts. If you wanna take a flier on Johnson, I would get it, and I probably will have a bit of exposure. But we haven’t even gotten to tight ends yet.

TE:

Gronk had fun during his off-time. But he is back, and ready to lay some smack down.

Rob Gronkowski: Receiving: 78 targets, 49 catches, 629 Yds, 5 TD
Standard: 92.9 (11)
0.5 PPR: 117.4 (12)
1 PPR: 141.9 (11)

O.J. Howard: Receiving: 43 targets, 27 catches, 324 Yds, 3 TD: 1 FMBL
Standard: 49.4 (32)
0.5 PPR: 62.9 (32)
1 PPR: 76.4 (32)

Cameron Brate: Receiving: 29 targets, 15 catches, 139 Yds, 1 TD
Standard: 19.9 (59)
0.5 PPR: 27.4 (58)
1 PPR: 34.9 (57)

Gronk has always been a personal favorite of mine. However, I am not expecting prime Gronk. Before you freak out, I still think he is going to be effective. His rapport with Brady, along with his size should keep him red zone relevant. But he isn’t Godwin or Evans. He will be the de facto WR3. He carries value, and his ceiling is still very high, but his floor is now low. Bake that into the price when you are looking at drafting him.

I have some exposure to Howard in 2020. I am not sure Gronk will stay healthy. Even if he does stay healthy, Howard could realistically be seen as the WR4. He has shown his flashes. And Brady has used two tight ends effectively before. But a Gronk injury would make Howard very valuable. So I am intrigued with the investment enough, considering Gronk’s year off and injury history.

Brate becomes viable only if either of the guys above him goes down. He has produced in the past, and would make an effective second tight end for the Buccaneers. But I am mostly avoiding him in fantasy unless the depth chart above him all gets injured.

I project the Buccaneers to score 1,320.66 points in 0.5 PPR format, which is ninth. There is a whole lot to like with this 2020 iteration of the Buccaneers. Brady should be solid, Evans and Godwin are safe and have crazy potential, and Gronk is one of the most intriguing tight ends of 2020. They are going to score. Dip into this offense.
