These Dynasty Football Offseason Moves Will Prepare Managers for 2022 Success

With championship rounds complete in most leagues, the 2021 fantasy football season is officially in the books. For those that won their league’s top prize, congratulations! Even with the playoffs barely over, it never is too early to determine what moves need to be made to improve the roster, whatever place a team finished. That statement is a thousand times true in dynasty leagues as there is never an offseason in dynasty football. With that in mind, these dynasty football offseason moves are presented to accomplish just that.

Dynasty League Players to Trade For

J.K. Dobbins, RB, Baltimore Ravens

See the source image
Even coming off injury, Dobbins has real dynasty value in 2022

Coming into the this season, J.K. Dobbins was expected to be one of the fastest rising players in fantasy football. Dobbins was coming off an excellent rookie season in which he averaged six yards a carry while scoring nine touchdowns in 15 games. Most assuredly, Dobbins had the feature back role all to himself in 2021. Unfortunately, that ascent was quickly erased when Dobbins tore his ACL in the preseason. Needless to say, Dobbins didn’t see the field during the Ravens’ regular season.

It is often said that hope springs eternal and that is the case here. Dobbins made it clear from the outset of the injury he intends to come back stronger than ever in 2022. Research has turned up nothing new on Dobbins since the first August reports. It is certainly possible that the manager holding him may have no confidence Dobbins will return for the start of next season. Now is the time to swoop in and make an offer. If healthy, Dobbins has all the makings of a star running back that is young enough to make a fantasy impact for years to come. Find who has him in the league and start negotiations. Do it today.

Jordan Love, QB, Green Bay Packers

Love will be a starting QB in the NFL and will make a dynasty manager very happy

Without question, Jordan Love has become a forgotten player in fantasy. Of course, there is good reason for that. Aaron Rodgers‘ play has been so superb the past few years that Love has been virtually welded to the bench. Even so, Rodgers is getting up there in age and eventually, all of the public issues he causes will outweigh his worth to Green Bay. If the Packers win the Super Bowl this season, Rodgers may be off to the sunset faster than anyone thinks.

Even if that doesn’t happen this season, Love will eventually become the starting quarterback for Green Bay. Most likely, Love has spent the past few years on someone’s taxi squad. There are probably some managers who have grown cold on Love, making this the perfect time to strike. A low-ball offer might do the trick and there will be a starting quarterback for one of the best teams in football on the roster for years to come. Obviously, there is risk here. That risk is minimal right now, though, making Love a most addition to this dynasty football offseason moves edition.

Pat Freiermuth, TE, Pittsburgh Steelers

Freiermuth has the potential to be a top TE fantasy player next season

It has been said, often, that a rookie tight end should never be drafted in fantasy football. At least, not very high. Fortunately, that is no longer a concern when it comes to Pat Freiermuth. Even as a first-year player, Freiermuth took over the starting position and has had a quality season. Coming into week 17, he has 49 catches for 422 yards. Most impressively, Freiermuth has scored seven touchdowns. He also has seven games in which he has over 10 fantasy points.

There may be some managers that are worried about the quarterback situation in Pittsburgh. Big Ben appears to be in his last season. Even if that is the case, the Steelers have shown the ability to bring in quality players through the decades. Whomever winds up as starter can use a solid catching tight end to keep the offense rolling. Going into his second season, Freirmuth has all the tools to be a top ten, maybe even top five TE. Feel out his fantasy manager and see if a deal can be made. He will be on fantasy rosters for years to come. If bold enough, that manager could be you.

Allen Robinson, WR, Chicago Bears

Robinson has lost his appeal but could find it restored just as quickly

Few, if any, players have lost his appeal faster or more quickly than Allen Robinson. After catching six of 11 targets in week one, Robinson completely disappeared the rest of the season. He only has one touchdown in 2021 and that was way back in week two. With one game left in the regular season, Robinson has 36 catches. That would be six games worth of stats normally for Robinson. In redraft leagues, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Robinson eventually made his way to the waiver wire.

Hopefully, no one in dynasty did anything nearly as foolish as that. However, Robinson surely has tested his manager’s patience this year. That same manager may have forgotten that coming into 2021, Robinson had over 1,000 yards receiving in two straight seasons while averaging 100 catches. While he has been in the NFL for eight years, Robinson is only 28.

There is a real good chance he returns to his illustrious ways for the next two to three seasons. Robinson is worth making a small offer to see if his manager bites. After all, how many 1000-yard receivers are coming in the 2022 draft class? The answer- not many. Make an offer today.

Ronald Jones, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

See the source image
Jones could be a fantasy starter at RB at a low price this offseason

Without doubt, this recommendation has a lot to do with how Ronald Jones finishes out the season and the playoffs with Tampa Bay. If Jones blows the doors off the place and leads the Buccaneers deep into the postseason, his price will dramatically rise. If he stumbles, he can probably be had for a ham sandwich. In any case, Jones will most likely have a shot at a starting RB spot, either with Tampa or elsewhere. There is zero chance the Bucs keep Jones, Leonard Fournette and Ke’Shawn Vaughn all on the roster next season.

Thus far, Jones’ stats are a mixed bag. He rushed 20 times in week sixteen and scored a touchdown. He finished with 15 fantasy points. Any manager could use that on a weekly basis. In week 17, Jones slid down the mountain to the tune of ten rushes for 26 yards and a single catch against the Jets. He also has an ankle injury of unknown severity to deal with. If Jones returns to the field this week or in the playoffs and looks decent enough, make an offer to his manager. A starting RB could be had for a third-round pick or even less. If healthy, Jones belongs on this dynasty football offseason moves edition.

Players Worth Stashing During the Offseason

Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR, Detroit Lions

See the source image
No player has zoomed to fantasy stardom faster than St. Brown

Easily, one of the best, if not the best, waiver wire pickups this or any other season, Amon-Ra St. Brown has been on fire the past few weeks. Simply put, there hasn’t been a better fantasy wide receiver than St. Brown over the past five weeks. During that time, he has an incredible 43 catches in 57 targets for 451 yards and four touchdowns. In addition, he even scored a rushing TD Sunday against the Seahawks.

After a performance like that, a lot of managers will think that St. Brown’s value will go down and will seek to make a deal. Other managers will likely think the same and wait for the price to come down. In this humble observer’s opinion, a player with that kind of capability at the tender age of 22 needs to stay right where he is. If you were lucky enough to get him off the wire, resist the temptation to move him this offseason and reap the rewards in 2022.

Cedric Wilson, WR, Dallas Cowboys

See the source image
In the right situation, Wilson will be a top dynasty fantasy player

When this article began, it was the expectation this section would be a statement regarding how it would be advisable to keep Michael Gallup on a dynasty fantasy roster this offseason. Then, of course, came Sunday and Gallup tore his ACL. It is likely Gallup will miss at least some of next season. That moves fellow wideout Cedrick Wilson up for inclusion on this dynasty football offseason moves edition.

Wilson will be an unrestricted free agent this coming offseason. Wherever he signs, Wilson will be higher in the peeking order of team receivers, maybe even at the very top. This past Sunday showed what Wilson is capable of. He caught all six targets for 35 yards and a touchdown. In addition, he threw the best spiral of the game when he completed a 31-yard pass to Tony Pollard. He also caught a two-point conversion. Wilson is explosive and 26 years old. He still has much football in front of him and could be a big part of a dynasty roster. If owned, resist all offers and the rewards will be yours for years to come.

Saquon Barkley, RB, New York Giants

See the source image
Talented and young, Barkley still gets the benefit of the doubt

Undoubtedly, there are fantasy managers that are at their wits end when it comes to Saquon Barkley. Barkley rushed for over a thousand yards in his first two pro seasons in which he scored 17 touchdowns on the ground and another six through the air. However, Barkley has had injury problems since and has been mostly invisible in fantasy production. Add in the fact that the Giants just can’t be trusted to right their awful team and managers may just be itching to get what they can for Barkley this offseason.

Such a move would be a big mistake. Even with the problems he has had, Barkley is still only 24. This season hasn’t been all bad for Barkley as he scored three TDs and scored over 21 fantasy points in each game in weeks three and four. Then came the injury against Dallas and he missed five games. Barkley is back on the field now, though, and rushed for over a hundred yards and averaged 4.9 YPC against the Bears this past Sunday.

Of course, New York lost the game, but as we all know, team results mean nada in fantasy football. Individual results do. Barkley has plenty of football left and the bet here is he will shake his injury woes. He has the talent to be the best running back in all of football. All temptations to trade him need to be rejected. Keeping Barkley gets the highest recommendation.

D.J. Moore, WR, Carolina Panthers

See the source image
Moore still has much dynasty value and should remain on fantasy rosters

Much like Barkley, D.J. Moore has fallen out of favor in fantasy circles as the season has worn on. However, the disappearing act is through no fault of his own. Over the first four weeks, Moore caught 30 passes and had over a hundred yards receiving twice. Most importantly, Moore scored 21, 22 and 33 fantasy points in weeks two through four. Unfortunately for him and his fantasy managers, Carolina’s quarterback play fell through a deep hole after that, and Moore vanished from the radar.

Since week four, Moore hasn’t scored more than 16 fantasy points in any game. The QBs have come and gone, and none were any good. This Sunday against the Saints saw Moore fall as far as possible as he scored only five points. Fortunately, that is the end of the bad news for Moore and his managers. Like Barkley, Moore is only 24. The signal callers the Panthers use next season can only improve. Whomever is the starter will love to throw to Moore and he will climb back to top receiver status. Whatever happens with other dynasty football offseason moves, Moore needs to stay right where he is.

Player to Keep an Eye On

DK Metcalf, WR, Seattle Seahawks

See the source image
If Wilson goes, Metcalf should likewise be sent packing

Almost certainly, D.K. Metcalf caused more than a few managers serious losses this season. When Russell Wilson Stats got injured, it was though Metcalf never made it out of the locker room when Seattle played. Even when Wilson returned, Metcalf was still missing in action. During the midseason, Metcalf scored in single digits in four of five games. In fact, Metcalf hadn’t scored more than 13 fantasy points in any game since week eight.

Of course, that changed in a big way this past Sunday against Detroit as Metcalf scored three TDs all by himself. He finished with 30 fantasy points. That is all well and good, but rumors are circling that Wilson will be the QB for a team other than the Seahawks in 2022. No matter who Seattle brings in could never be as good as Wilson has been the past several seasons. To sum the situation up simply, if Wilson stays, so does Metcalf on the dynasty roster. If Wilson leaves, Metcalf must be sent packing as quickly as possible before his value plummets.

Even further, if a decent offer is made at any point for Metcalf, I would be tempted to take it even before the Wilson situation is resolved. Metcalf is as talented as any receiver, but the downside for him as is also about as big as any fantasy player around. Metcalf clearly makes for an interesting offseason for him and his fantasy managers.
