Here we are, Week 2 is over of this wildly short fantasy baseball season. I, like most of you, are seeing some really concerning bust trends starting to develop. Standard points/5×5 category scoring, yet these big five will apply to any format. You’re asking me why are we calling this absolute star-studded list a possible bust? Seven weeks of a regular season is what we get. These Way Too Early Busts might be true. Ronald Acuna Jr was destined for this list until he went 5 for 8, 3 blazing home runs with 5 RBIs in Sunday’s doubleheader against the woeful Phillies.

Christian Yelich

This was your first round, third overall pick wasn’t it? That high you’re expecting those huge Yeli numbers right? It doesn’t look good so far. The runner up for 2019 NL MVP has batted an abysmal 7/47, .149 batting average, 4 long balls and 9 RBIs. Now over the last week he’s notched a 6/20, 3 of those 4 dingers and a cool .300 average. I don’t buy into that he’s a bust yet or ever. Hopefully last week shows he’s dusted off the 2019 bat.

Cody Bellinger

Confidence, that’s what was flowing through you when you grabbed the reigning NL MVP at fourth overall. Now, you’re left wondering what’s happening. 11/64, .172 average, 2 home runs, and 1 swiped bag. The stolen base is the standout. Last week Bellinger barely hovered over the Mendoza Line with a .208 average and both of his home runs on the year. For sure he’s not going to be a full-on bust but he might not live up to that potential you expected.

Anthony Rendon

Honestly, he’s still working on that World Series hangover. He has to be. Let’s talk about last week before the yearly stats. 0/19, yes that’s right a .000 average. Where Bellinger and Yelich are starting to climb out of the hole, Rendon is digging to see if he can find the other side of the earth. What was supposed to be a shocking jump start to the Angels’ offense is starting out as a dead battery. 4/39 on the year, toting a .103 average with 1 trip around the bags. I’m not necessarily calling Rendon the worst of the Way Too Early Busts but I don’t really have a choice. 0/19 on the week, that’s concerning.

George Springer

I didn’t really want to dive into this mess but it must be done. I think the trash cans helped. Before his injury this year Springer has forgotten how to make contact. 8/44, .182 average and 3 home runs. The only redeeming stat he has is 12 RBIs which is top 15 in the category.

Rhys Hoskins

Someone save me. Last year I bought into the Big Fella with as many dynasty shares as possible during that slump. Blamed his swing issues on Gabe Kapler and took in all those free passes. Then with the hire of Joe Girardi I was floating. Now, two weeks in it’s like nothing has changed. 5/29, .172 average, NO HOME RUNS, and just a single RBI. At this point, you can’t trade him unless you’re trading off of name-value or to a Phillies fan. Thing is, I don’t expect a roaring comeback. Halfway through last year, his bat went ice-age cold and it hasn’t thawed out yet. I wish his bat was as hot as that beautiful 1970’s mustache.
