Week 10 Start ‘Em or Bench ‘Em

There’s no sugar-coating it, this week’s NFL slate is nothing to write home about. The biggest game of the week might be in the one o’clock games with the Browns coming to Baltimore to face the Ravens. On top of that, a lot of fantasy-relevant teams are on byes. The Eagles, Dolphins, Rams, and Chiefs are all enjoying a weekend off. Nonetheless, fantasy football must go on. Here’s who you should start or bench for Week 10.

Start ‘Em – Jared Goff

This isn’t the first time that Jared Goff finds himself in one of our articles on who to start or bench. It’s no secret that Goff is a completely different quarterback when he plays inside, as opposed to outside. Goff has been excellent at home in Detroit’s climate-controlled, fan-friendly dome. Although the Lions do take off for LA to face the Chargers in SoFi Stadium, this is too tasty of a matchup to pass up for the 29-year-old signal caller. The abysmal Chargers defense is allowing the most yards and most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks. Even though Goff has to jump on a plane for this week’s matchup, I still expect him to have a great game. Feel free to lock Goff into your starting lineup for Week 10.

Sit ‘Em – Kyler Murray

Every single fantasy owner who drafted Kyler Murray just to stash on their IR has waited for this moment. I hate to burst your bubble but do not start Kyler this week. The Cardinals have been certainly spunky this year, even if their record does not show it. Spunk doesn’t always tell the full story. Kyler has not played in an NFL game since Week 14 of last year. There will certainly be some rust in his return to the gridiron, and this Cardinals team is essentially playing for nothing. For a quarterback who relies heavily on his running, I don’t foresee Kyler or the Cards taking any risks. Keep Kyler on your bench this week and wait to see when they finally decide to really cut him loose.

Start ‘Em – Rachaad White

Rachaad White has certainly had an up-and-down season so far in 2023. As of recently, it’s been up and up for the second-year man from Arizona State. White has been a PPR machine averaging over five targets and scoring 15+ points for three weeks in a row. He also seems to never leave the field playing in over 75 percent of snaps since the bye in Week 5. White gets a date with the Titans this week who have been allowing the fourth most rushing yards to running backs since Week five. White is an easy lock to start in your lineup this week.

Sit ‘Em – Gus Edwards

As a die-hard Ravens fan, this pains me to admit, but you should bench Gus Edwards this week. Gus “The Bus” Edwards has been absolutely dominant these last three weeks, racking up six touchdowns and scoring 18+ points each week. That might all come crashing down in Week 10. The emergence of Keaton Mitchell paired with a fierce AFC North matchup against the Browns is reason enough for me to fade Edwards this week. He only played 18 percent of snaps last week and saw five carries and was completely uplifted by his two touchdowns. When thinking about whether to start or bench Gus, lean towards having him ride pine this week.

Start ‘Em – Tyler Lockett

Similar to Rachaad White mentioned above, its been an up and down season for Tyler Lockett. Over his last four games, Lockett has been the definition of a boom or bust. Locket has scored 15 and 22 in two games and seven and six points in the other. The Seahawks travel to Washington to face the tanking Commanders. Washington has given up the second most yards and touchdowns to wideouts this year, and I think Geno Smith and company should have a good day offensively. Lockett is worth the risk this week as a WR2 or FLEX option.

Sit ‘Em – Jahan Dotson

Staying in the same game as mentioned above, I have Commanders wide out Jahan Dotson as a sit this week. Dotson is starting to get hot scoring 16+ points and two touchdowns in the last two games. It’s great to finally see the hyped sophomore wide out finally start to break out, but I think he’s going to fall short this week. The Seahawks have a great pass defense allowing the third fewest yards to receivers since Week five. With that being said and Dotson as the clear second option in Washington behind Terry McLaurin, there should be better options on your bench. If you’re struggling to decide whether to start or bench Dotson, put him comfortably on your bench.

Start ‘Em – Taysom Hill

The gadget man from New Orleans has had an impressive three week run. He’s scored over 16 points in three straight games and over 20 in two of the three. I expect the Saints to continue to utilize Taysom Hill in all facets this week against Minnesota. Whether it’s throwing, running, or receiving the Saints always seem to draw up high value touches for Hill. He’s a must start at a premium position in Week 10.

Sit ‘Em – Kyle Pitts

I don’t know about you, but I’m getting tired of writing about Kyle Pitts and why he shouldn’t be played in fantasy football. Arthur Smith has made it quite clear that he doesn’t care about fantasy football and seems to overlook some great talent he has on the offensive side of the ball. Pitts has only eclipsed 10 points in two games this year and has never scored more than 16. Not for lack of talent, but Pitts should be benched this week.

Can You Smell Playoffs?

Although we’re missing some high powered teams in Week 10, we still have football to watch. Bye weeks are really starting to make an impact and it’s important to have good bench depth in tough times. We always say how important matchups are, and as we inch closer to fantasy playoffs, wins are more important now than ever. When deciding on who to start or bench, use this article to help make the right moves.
