What to do After the Rookie Draft

We’re in the dead season. After the Superbowl, people get excited about the rookies. Managers spend their time researching college players, checking NFL mock drafts, doing fantasy mock drafts, trading picks, and then actually going through the fantasy rookie drafts. Once the rookie draft is over, there’s a relative dead period until training camp in late July. Here are ideas for what to do after the rookie draft.

Evaluate

Having a direction is very important. Look at all of your assets and try to see what your team is built for. You can even ask others you trust for their opinions. Try to figure out if you’re all-in for the championship, competing long-term, or in a rebuild. If you’re all-in with an ageing team, this can be a good time to buy low on vets as people are still excited about the rookie. If you’re in a rebuild, you can check out my rebuilding articles here and here. You can also try to imagine how other managers are evaluating their teams to see what you have that they’ll want.

Keep Up To Date

It’s very easy to be passive during this time when there isn’t much happening. But make sure you have Sleeper or Twitter notifications on in order to react quickly to any news. On the other hand, make sure not to overreact to training camp hype. Coaches say a lot of things they don’t really mean.

Chat

For me, Fantasy football isn’t all about the game. All my leagues are very active in the chat and it’s not always about fantasy football either. This can be a great time to build camaraderie in your leagues.

Wrap-Up

It’s very easy to forget about football for a few months during this time, but it doesn’t need to be that way. Hopefully, this can inspire you in thinking about what to do after the rookie draft.
