Jameis Winston – Fantasy Analysis

Howdy, y’all Christopher Pinto here lead Fantasy Football writer and analyst for BellyUpSports. The NFL Draft is now over and dreams were made! The next saga that will continue to make the headlines is Free Agency. Many of the Drafts and NFL’s big names are still in limbo. That waiting period ends for one famous quarterback.

Famous Jameis Winston, the former quarterback of the Tampa Bay Bucs will part ways with the organization and move to the Cajun Capital of New Orleans. Breaking this morning Charlie Robinson reported that The Saints and Jameis are agreeing upon a one year deal sending Jameis to back up Drew Brees.

Drew Brees has already made a move for after his football career. He has signed a contract with NBC Sports. The wording of the contract is even more cryptic now as it reads he will start at NBC Sports when he retires from football. What does this mean for Drew, could he be planning an early exit to the season? The Saints have also reported wanting to use quarterback Taysom Hill more versatility and ease him into the system.

What does this mean for Jameis, could he be throwing the ball to WR Michael Thomas by seasons end? Let us look at the former Seminoles career in Tampa Bay.

Career Stats:

  • 2015 – 312/535 / 4,042 yards / 22 TDs / 15 INTs = 84.2 QBR = 274.98 Fantasy Points
  • 2016 – 345/567 / 4,090 yards / 28 TDs / 18 INTs = 86.1 QBR = 256.10 Fantasy Points
  • 2017 – 282/442 / 3,504 yards / 19 TDs / 11 INTs = 92.2 QBR = 201.66 Fantasy Points
  • 2018 – 244/378 / 2,992 yards / 19 TDs / 14 INTs = 90.2 QBR = 195.78 Fantasy Points
  • 2019 – 380/626 / 5,109 yards / 33 TDs / 30 INTs = 84.3 QBR = 305.36 Fantasy Points

Fantasy Analysis:

Jameis Winston has always been a gunslinger, quite the opposite of incumbent Drew Brees. The addition of Winston to the quarterback room of Brees and Hill is defiantly a surprise to some. Winston will not be on the Fantasy radar until we know more about Brees and even then I would stay away. The addition of him is more so a safety precaution and adding depth behind a veteran with one foot out the door and a Swiss army knife. Until Winston can overcome his inept ability to find DB’s I will have him listed as a low-end QB 2 with minimal upside.
